There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who take responsibility for their failure to follow the law and those who cry, "It wasn't my fault!!!"

Oh, and I totally agree with you. You DEFINITELY weren't following too close. Stupid cops.

Damn your laws are Harsh!!

In Aus it doesnt matter if you have your drivers license, rego pagers or insurance papers with you or not.

Most people keep that stuff at home (apart from the Drivers licence)

All that matters is that you have a licence, (sat the tests, passed, and keep paying the renewals) not whether its in you pocket when you are driving.

And I think we all know that. I don't ever 'forget my wallet when I run out of my house' and the proof of insurance card is in each vehicle. In California, they don't dismiss these charges if you show up in court with the appropriate paper work. You were still 'driving without a liscense and proof of insurance' and they will fine you accordingly. There are no 'fix it' tickets. Every v.c. code violation here has a fine. And you never know when or why you are going to get pulled over. When I was still working at Ralph's, I used to hit the 'sobriety check point' at least twice a month. They would check everything. Knowing that, why take the chance? It can't be too much different in the other states. California just happens to be one of the more greedy ones.

I doubt the hood can be repaired...usually dents in the hood are tough to hammer out perfectly so that they aren't noticeable. It really depends on the level of damage done....

Good news is I'm sure you could find a hood off a parts car somewhere near you for cheapo $$, probably less than fixing the dents.... Getting someone to match the paint would cost a little more for a good job though.

Do you know if you had any frame damage done in the accident?

Sorry for you and you Z. That's an awful crack on the front of your Aero kit. Did you not put some kind of a bar behind it? I think that same or simular front kit is on my husband's 77 280Z but he put a quarter inch bar filled with play sand behind the front and rear aero kit. The fiberglass is not resting on the bar, probably a half inch gap all around, so vibration would not become a factor. Our classic insurance (Hagertys) company would not cover any vintage car that didn't have some sort of bumper/bar behind the aero kit. If you had more protection in your aero kit, obviously your hood would not have sustained as much damage. Something to think about when you repair your Z.

Just my .02 cents and good luck with your repairs:classic:

Yes, I admit to my mistakes. The thing that irks me is that I always have my license and insurance with me, even if I'm not driving. And yeah, it is a pain that in addition to fixing my car, I'll have to pay fines for "breaking the law". Whether I agree with the law is of no concern to the cops or judge. But that is a philosophical and/or political subject for another day.

As far as I can tell, there isn't any frame damage. But, somehow, the radiator has a fan clutch-sized dent; leading me to wonder. I just snapped some shots of the engine mounts, radiator, and fan. They're in my gallery.

As far as frame support, like Zrush said, no I don't have anything there. I recently bought the car and am making changes as I find the time and money. I actually decided, yesterday, to mount some sort of sqaure or round tubing behind the air dam for future protection.

All the previous owner told me about the paint was that it is DuPont with two coats primer, two coats of that metallic blue, and two coats of clear. I've not decided on what to do about the paint, yet. A friend of mine has a paint setup he's willing to let me borrow, so I'll most likely be doing the work myself. I'm contemplating repainting the entire car black, inside and out, because I think it could use a new paint job. My other option is to attempt to match the paint and also touch up several areas. Anyone know of any reputable paint suppliers around Marietta?

Does the fan now clear the radiator? It is possible that as the hood got bent down ita caused the raditor support to flex inward toward the fan. You'll want to make sure that if this happened it gets pulled back to it's original location.

As for a bar behind the air dam, it won't hurt, but it will not help much either. Maybe for bumping a parking lot curb it would help some, but a 1/4" steel bar will bend fairly easily when pushed by a 2300 lb car at any speed, unless it is 1/4" by ?" angle iron

That location is far too low to do much "protecting" of anything. Z's sit so low compared to most cars that the hood and higher parts of the front end get the majority of damage as the Z nose gets forced under the (in your case) rear end of the car that got hit. (witness how your hood, and mine got bent sharply downward)

FWIW, stock 240Z bumpers don't protect much either.

Undoubtedly one of the reasons the cops may feel it's necessary to give you all of those nice tickets is that if the person you hit decides to sue you and/or your insurance company for whiplash or whatever, documenting all the facts of the case would both cover the cops butt and make for a more straight forward case. Less chance for disputing the facts of the case if all the paperwork(ie tickets) is in order. God "bless" lawyers. Hopefully you won't have to deal with any lawsuits. Good luck. Victor.

Exactly. The real issue should be the wrecked Z and the best way to fix it. Nothng can be done about the other crap except to live and learn (or not).

Wow, what a nice asshole.

Did you expect a lesser response? I knew that was coming sooner or later.

If you present your opinion with comments like "welcome to the real world" your gonna wizz people off. People will call you an asshole b/c you come across as one. There were much nicer ways to have stated your opinion rather than attacking another persons opinion. Its not what you said... its the way you said it.

If you persist in whining because you CHOOSE to disobey the laws that everyone else manages to obey, you don not deserve any consideration from me!

I didn't attack anyones opinion, I pointed out the LAW. If you do not obey the law, you pay the price. Simple! Welcome to the real world! Don't like the law? Change it, or don't drive. Just stop the whining! Some day, when you grow up you'll understand how the world works.
