Oh, my lord, biotree,

Surely the '74 260 Z (especially those with the 240 body), looks enough like a 240 to pass muster ????????

As for the ZX, weeeellll, as I said, 'tis not a Datsun therefore not a TRUE Zed.

Rick.

Thank you mdbrandy...I was thinking this but for some reason it just didn't sound right at the time I was typing in my post.

No problem. I think it's cool that I own both one of the first and one of the last of the first gen Z's. So I'm fairly up on my body style dates :geek: .

I wonder why everyone is so defensive of their early gen Z's? Of course they are the original, and hence the most pure form of the car. Light, strong, agile, delightful to drive, and of course absoulutely gorgeous.

Tryying to follow that act is not easy, but the first ZX (79-83)is also an incredible vehicle. Maybe one of the most reliable cars ever made. much more the refined tourer, but whats wrong with that? Certainly miles ahead of its competitors in the day. Would you rather drive a DATSUN (thats what it says on the tail) 280ZX or a corvette?

I have a series one 240 Z and a series one 280 ZX. Both are excellant cars. They both get comments about how beautiful they are, and i enjoy the crap out of driving them.

Anyone who has a problem with that can F*&@ OFF.

Not defensive - we just like the first gen cars better. Remember that the site is: "Welcome to the biggest club dedicated to the CLASSIC Datsun Zcars (240z, 260z, & 280z). "

Now, having said that, no one should insult a ZX owner here (There should be no insulting anyone anywhere on this site as far as I'm concerned). I, in fact, was seriously considering a ZX for my daily driver before I found my '78 280Z. So while I would have enjoyed a ZX, I PREFER the first gen cars.

FWIW,

Styling preferences aside,

Having had all of the US Z's -

Early Z's (240's - 260's)are what I look for in a sports car. They are minimalist, stupid simple, tough as nails, dead reliable and performed well out of the box and can be made to perform even better with a little work. All the 240 models are easy updated or backdated to whatever you might consider acceptable levels of performance and reliability.

ZX's were luxury touring sports cars. They are very different from 240's. Increases in complexity that comes with them brings a whole new set of maintenance issues. And they are not nearly as straight forward to modify for performance.

Personally, my luxury touring sports car is a C4 Vette. My real sports car is a 240Z.

Well thanks for your opinions on the z and zx cars. Not too many facts, but what was given helps out. I do have another question, why do you say 280zx are not a real Dustan. They were still in business and the name was still datsun, It hadn’t changed yet. Anyway, I was just wondering because every time I mention the zx series, it gets put down. I have a 1980 280zx and I love it. It still is the best looking sports car in the school parking lots, and it gets these really nice stares at the gas station, and when I drive by people, they are still in awe because they could not figure out what just flew by them. ROFL I love my 280zx, but then again I would love to have any z car. I got this car when I was 15, I’m 18 now. When I got it, it did not work, the body was crap, and the interior was crap. Know that I have fixed it us real nice, it’s a part of me, but what’s cooler, my girlfriend is attached. I was thinking about selling it for extra college money, and she about left me. I don’t know who's more attached?? Anyway, it sounds like the 240z and 260z are the hot ones, and maybe one day I'll have one, in the mean time we can all dream about the 350Z. I think for a first car, I couldn’t have anything better then a 280zx. How many other people have a z car as a first?
