Manifold studs

I ordered a set of manifold studs from MSA along with a header and some other parts. They sent me 17 studs and 17 nuts, all identical.

I'm not sure if this is the same as cars originally equipped with studs all around, but thats what they sent me. When I was pulling the original manifolds, the upper points holding the intake and fuel rail on were regular bolts instead of studs.

Hope thats helpful

I haven't gotten around to fitment yet, but I should be able to get started in a few days when I receive a tap I ordered

That is the "normal", "stock" from Nissan situation on 240Z's. One can convert to all studs if they wish, but from the factory they came with studs for the lower row of manifold attachment, and with bolts for the top row of manifold attachment.

8mm X 1.25 bolts, studs, nuts.

Length is the same for all studs.

My '73 parts car had bolts holding the intake on with studs for the exhaust. I can't say for sure what my '71 had on it as all the studs had been pulled off when I got the engine.

The Parts CD/microfish shows 2 different length studs for the intake and the exhaust. I tried ordering them from my local dealer. Got them in just fine only to find out that some of them were too short. I don't remember which ones exactly, but about 1/3 of them needed to be of the longer length.

Just get the long ones. Better to have a little extra length than not enough.

Here

Just went out and measured the studs on the original engine from Bambikiller. All of the studs protrude from the head approximately the same distance. Shortest ones protrude 1 & 1/16", Longest protrudes 1 & 4/16"

Thanks Carl, I think I'm going to go with the studs suggested by gramercyjam. They seem to have quite a good selection for a pretty good price.

Edit: I just did my home work :stupid: . Anyway I pulled a couple of old studs out of my spare engine and found 2 different lengths. Total length of the short ones are 43mm and the long ones are 48mm. The thread length is the similar on both 14mm on the short side and 19 mm on the long side. The only difference is the length of the center of the stud (the blank space). The short ones are 10mm and the long ones are 14mm. (+,-.5mm)

When I looked through the Mcmaster catalog I couldn't find the correct size. Sorry. I guess it's back to E-bay.

:stupid: :stupid: :stupid:

Hey All

This thread ties in to a thread I started a while back regarding the correct mounting for the manifolds...I got NO replies.

Could someone that has the original bolts in a 70/71 240z intake manifold on the upper attachment points please let me know the head stampings on them. I am trying to ascertain whether the bolts I have in there are correct or not (I know for a fact a few have been changed).

Thanks

Joseph

Hey Ed

Yes, this is BRILLIANT information, thanks for the reply. Mine are stamped the same and initially I thought that they wernt original. I then got into rebuilding the transmission and was interested to discover that the bolts that secure the casings together have the same stampings. Initially I was a little sceptical but checked out three other trannies and the bolts were all marked the same.

OK, next question is where are the bolts and where are the studs/nuts?

Thanks again for the reply and the info.

Regards

Joseph
