dhoneycutt Posted June 14, 2004 Share #1 Posted June 14, 2004 I need some help from the group here...Is it possible to put a late model 260/280 rear strut assy on a 72 240? If so are they different? or is my Z possesed:tapemouth Here is my dilema:stupid: I am trying to put in my new Tokico HP struts but the old ones are about 2 inches longer than the new ones ( I checked the application on Tokico's web site and I supposedly have the right ones) and I am sure I'm not putting the fronts on the back. Any suggestions from the group or am I shi* out of luck and have to buy the correct strut housings?
panchovisa Posted June 14, 2004 Share #2 Posted June 14, 2004 I take it HP stands for high performance? Most "performance" strut inserts are made for cars that have been lowered. Contact the manufacturer and find out if their strut inserts are for shortened strut tubes. If yes, ten you will have to "section" out a portion of strut tube. Do a search on this site for shortened struts.
Mr Camouflage Posted June 14, 2004 Share #3 Posted June 14, 2004 Yes it is possible to put 260Z struts in a 240z.Yes the 260z inserts are longer for the 260z, Nissan did this so that the rear struts would have more travel. No 260Z inserts will not fit in 240Z struts and vice versa. (well they will if you dont mind them banging around).Sounds like your struts have been swapped out for 260z items. HKSZ Posted June 14, 2004 Share #4 Posted June 14, 2004 I know with Konis they have a ribbed rod on the end of the insert that you can cut down to fit, or if they are too short we usually chuck a few washers into the strut

I was afraid of that:tapemouth I also read here that the 260Z struts are a little larger diameter. I guess this answers my question as to why my Z had that ralley look rear suspension verses what appears to be normal for the front  Well here goes some more money:ermm: Any suggestions as to where to get them? There's not too many Z's in the wrecking yards around here!
