Well, i was working on the z's cylinder head today to check it for cracks. I found two right by the valves in the 3rd, and 4th cylinders. No biggy i got a N42 with everything on it for 120 bux. What really sucks is while I was cracking the cam tower bolts loose (i know its a big no no, but the head is unusable anyways) I pulled as hard as i could then finally the sucker snapped loose. But, in the process my hand went flying toward one of the other towers at full force. 50% of my left pinky nail is completely ripped off, and there is a nice chunk of fingerprint missing. On the ring finger next to it there is a nice sized cut. Man working on cars is fun, but not when crap like this happens. It majorly sucks because i play the guitar. Looks like this will slow me down a bit *sigh* BTW- typing this sure was interesting with a giant wad of gauze wrapped around my pinky

I'd bet you could also do some interesting new riffs, maybe start a benefit concert and call it "Band Aid". It could be for a good "gauze". I can get some nice cuts and bruises just changing wiper blades. Every time I work on a car I get some kind of bleeding goin' on. Always an adventure. Victor. :classic:

I've been in the same boat before. My motto: If you don't get hurt while working, you weren't working hard enough.

Works for me at least. I've had 3 stitches in my arm from rebuilding a tranny. 5 stitches in my head from dropping an exhaust manifold (don't ask). :stupid: And I have too many scars to list on my hands, arms, legs, face, chest, and they all come scrapes, pokes, welding burns, slipped wrenches, broken sockets, broken ratchets, slipped screwdrivers, etc.

The unfortunate thing, I work on my cars so much that I never have enough blood left over to donate. :dead:

But honestly, I'm not accident prone!

I was changing tail light lenses in a 95 Dodge caravan when i got wasp stung. I know this doesnt sound bad at all, but i have anaflaxes.(sirus alergic reactions to stings bites ec..)

Made for a night in the er.

I've got scars all over my hands from 25+ years of car work. Wrench slipped last December when I was tearing down a 280 parts car and I took a huge chunk out of my right thumb, right at the base over the bone. Took about a month to heal right, and it's still sensitive. I've taken to wearing those "Mechanix" gloves now to "cut down" on the injury potential.

But i've used 'em, and thinking about it- i should go buy a pair before i adjust my valves next. Do as i say, not as i do...

Some of my welding burns are due to the Mechanix gloves! I wear them so much that I end up wearing holes in the finger tips. Then I do something stupid like accidentally touch hot metal after I've been welding.

I'm actually on my 6th pair of gloves in the last year and a half. Northern Tools carries some of their gloves with the elastic wrist band (instead of the velcro closure) for about $10 a pair, btw.

ANAPHYLAXIS! I also suffer from that. My last episode really ties in with thread. I was under my wife's car welding an exhaust hanger when some hot slag fell on my arm. Oh, and did I mention that I have a "depression" (read: BIG missing chunk of skin) on my left forearm?

After I got done painting my car, I had lots of overspray on the floor. Found out that a sanding pad on my 4-1/2" grinder took the paint off the concrete really nicely. Well, with grinder in my right hand, I used my left hand to "flip" the power cord out of my way. I flipped it over and across my right hand. (See where this is going?) :stupid:

Needless to say, skin will not stop a fast spinning grinder, but it tries.... :tapemouth :tapemouth

Now my wife pulls out my arm to show others and says, "This is what happens when you spill paint in my garage!"
