I'm not getting fuel to the carbs

Was this car running before you rebuilt the carbs or was it sitting? Were you getting fuel before?

Got to check it out step by step. Use a separate gas can like you were using (2.5 gal will work just fine). Start at the fuel pump and go fromt here. Check each and every item between the pump and the carbs. You'll eventually find the blockage through process of elimination.

Hey Mark, if you have the new pump draw from your gas can, run a line from the pumps outlet back to your can to make sure the pump is working. If its working then hook the front carb feed on the rail to drain into your gas can. This should tell you you're getting fuel to the carb (front at least).

oh yeah, if you wanted to shine a light into the mech pump hole and see if the cam pump drive looks ok?

.... Where in the chain of events DO you have gas flowing??? Can you pull gas from the tank to the fuel pump inlet side?

Can you blow air back through the supply tube into the tank??

Fuel pump: With the engine turning over on the starter put your finger over the "inlet" (look at the arrows 1 inny 1 outty) and see if that little sucker is sucking your finger tight to the tube. Now try the output tube. You should feel pressure against you finger. Just in case you have the lines reversed because the orientation of the new pump might be different this is also a good check to tell which is IN and which is OUT.

This should NOT be this difficult!!!

no one has really stated this blatantly, make sure the overflow tubes are not blocked up that come out of the top of the float chambers....if those aren't clear, the gas will have a hard time being used,

Thanks guys for all your advise. I think I will double check the pump to see if it is working correctly, then make sure my fuel rail is not blocked up tonight.

It has to be one of the two, I have checked everything else, and I have disconnected everything before the pump and after the rail.

P.S. yes the car was running before I started this project. Not well, but it was running.

Thats why I decided to re-build the carbs.

And we all know how it works!!

you start a project like re-building the carbs and say "while I have this part off I might as well replace the exaust manifold"

and "while I have the manifold off, I might as well replace the whole exaust system"

And so on... and so on... and so on...

That happened to my other car with 32/36 weber, exactly the same problem the culprit was the accelerator pump in the carb was pretty worn out. Replaced it and solved the problem!

But you said you rebuilt your carb already..... dont know if you used some harmfull chemicals to clean the carb that wrecked the pump? just double check that. Not sure if its the same with Z carbs though....

This has happened to me before. I had to do the rather unpleasent siphon routine to remedy.

Disconnect hose between fuel filter and fuel pump.

Siphon until fuel fills the filter if it is not already.

Put hose back on pump and tighten.

Disconnect fuel hose somewhere between fuel pump and carbs.

Siphon again pulling fuel from filter into the pump housing.

Put hose back on and tighten.

Go in car and start!

Mark , I was actually in the exact same position about a month ago , ending up replacing the tank with a reline and all new line sfrom the tank to the head , as what was said before check that the pump works fire up the motor but re route the fuel line to an empty jar or another gas tank , just start car by fillng the bowls , that way the pump is working and go from there either back towards the tank or the overflow lines fron the fuel rail or towards the carbs , good luck Jeff

OK here's the update.

After several different tests to try to find where my fuel starvation problem was, I finally got the fuel pump to send fuel to the carbs.

However, I was still getting no fuel to the fuel bowls.

After taking the tops off the bowls and trying to blow thru the gas inlet. I realized the needle and seat were not opening up.

so I took them apart and found that the spring I was using was too big, too strong to work.

I cut the spring in half and BINGO, it works.
