Posted June 20, 200420 yr comment_85737 Hey Guys, While installing my newly reparied (44014 thank god for you) i had the bumper off, and saw what my car would look like without the front bumper. I must say i thougt it looked pretty cool, and i have noticed that a few of you have pictures that show such a front. I was wondering how you would go about getting the corners of the front bumper (the corners that go to the start of the grill), im not interested in cutting up a good bumper (nor mine) so i was wondering if anyone knew of a firbre glass option? Thanks guys, below is a picture of what i am talking about. Kudos to the owner, shes a beut Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12271-front-end-rebuff/ Share on other sites
June 20, 200420 yr comment_85760 I believe if you look closely you will notice the entire bumper is in place with the center section painted black. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12271-front-end-rebuff/#findComment-85760 Share on other sites
June 20, 200420 yr comment_85762 That's because he edited the photo in paint. You will need to obtain a second set from a wrecker and modify them by cutting the centre section and welding the ends where the grille part was to suit the inside brackets. If that makes sense.FWIW I don't think it's a great modification one tap at the front while parked and you will need a new bonnet and straight non rusted non vented ones are hard to find in Australia.I also think there is too much open space but it's just my opinion and experience from having someone hit my car with the bumper on twice.I am also installing my rear bumper again, to avoid costly $$$ back end problems.Rechroming existing bumpers makes a huge difference. The car looks alot more complete and it's better protected. If you do still go ahead you will want to make a custom grille to fill the lower gap.Gav, Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12271-front-end-rebuff/#findComment-85762 Share on other sites
June 20, 200420 yr Author comment_85773 mmm youve got a point with the no more prtection gav. What i would probably do is keep my existing bumper, but its no big thing to change them over if i wanted to (ie have the full bumper while driving around town, and put on the moded one for shows etc) I realise its not an accepted look as i myself wasnt a fan until i saw my car with the bumper off. P.s, thanks for pointing out that i used photoshop to edit it Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12271-front-end-rebuff/#findComment-85773 Share on other sites
June 20, 200420 yr comment_85778 i like the look myself think it makes a very aggressive look have depends on spoiler too my current one would work as the grille fills between bonnet and spoiler but some dont Mick Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12271-front-end-rebuff/#findComment-85778 Share on other sites
June 21, 200420 yr comment_85795 Have you seen MSA's Aero kit that integrates the bumper into the foil? I think it looks sharp but it's kinda pricy if you get the front and the back ($600). As nostalgic as would like to consider myself, that 100 pound hunk of steel protruding out is just down right ugly and I think it realy makes a car with great lines look funky. I have a 76z and mine extends the car by another foot front and back. June 22, 200420 yr Author comment_86075 Yeah i did, but its not what im after, basically i am after a fibreglass front bumper, and damaged chrome one, or someone who knows the process used on the other cars. It has been done i swear!! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12271-front-end-rebuff/#findComment-86075 Share on other sites
June 24, 200420 yr comment_86414 http://www.arizonazcar.com/bump.html Is that what your looking for? I have a 280 with the disgustingly huge crash bumpers. I was acctually looking to completely remove them also. I think it gives it a very agressive racy look. While skimming around one night i can across these babies. They arent expensive at all. June 25, 200420 yr comment_86440 There was a guy in the local car club who had a set on his 240, it was an original bumper with the centre removed and the edges welded up nicely, not chromed, but they looked well done, he just took them off his car to put on a new bumper, I shall ask him next time I see him what happened to the old ones. June 25, 200420 yr comment_86483 These are kind of hard to see since they are painted black, but I think this is what you are talking about. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1261&password=&sort=7&thecat=3029 Basically, he had a bent bumper, cut the center section out, welded caps on the ends of the corners, and re-mounted them. Turned out nice looking. Sorry I don't have a better picture.OrYou could do something like this.http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1262&password=&sort=7&thecat=3029 Here the guy took a flat aluminum bar, shaped it, and mounted it just like you're talking about. He also has a matching single flat piece across the back.
