Carbs

Yes they are all Hitachi made SU copies, even the flat tops. Bill, if you have round tops on an L26 it was converted. Without even knowing it you a right on another point. It is generally accepted that 260Z's were only made for the 1974 model year, usually reffered to as early or late (small vs big bumpers). But I have seen 260Z's with build dates as late as 11/74 and they are registered as 75's. I guess they ran behind on the development of the 75 280Z.

Well im not sure the Engine came out of the 260. It was giving to me in a trade.

We found the numbers that lead me to think it is a L26. Ill post the # here later

Engine ID number should start with: L24, L26 or L28

If you do have the "round-top" carbs on the engine, you're headed in the right direction.

Round-top meaning that the transition from the horizontal top surface of the carb dome to the vertical side surface has a radius to it, not a sharp edge. For those reading that may not know.

Yeah mine are round tops im pretty sure. I didnt know the difference untill now thanks kmack.

It is a L26 engine. So i guess the 260zs had round toppers on em.

The motor that came with the trade has a bad block. The cylender walls are pitted somthing bad.

I was given another motor that dodint have intake or carbs. Is a L26 from a 74.

Im learning thease things just learning slow:stupid:

The 260's originally came with flat tops. Here is a picture of the roundtops on my car:

Round-tops have the float bowls attached to the lower side of the main carb body. The flat-tops, have the float bowls integrated into the bottom of the carb body. Plus they are much bigger than the round-tops.

And we all had to learn about these things at one point or another. Hell, I didn't know the difference in carbs until after I already had the flat-tops running on my old spare motor from a junk '73!! Talk about a waste of time!:tapemouth :stupid:

No one here will criticize you for asking questions. That's how you learn. Before you know it, you'll be the one answering someone else's questions. We've all been there.

Stephen is right Bill, no 260Z ever had round tops from the factory. Has to have been converted.

Here's a picture of the flat top set up.

Notice the square throats where the air cleaner bolts up.
