Engine Bay Inspection Lamp Markings

Recommended Posts

Just a small question for all the Z gurus.

As mentioned on other posts many electrical items have stamped on them something that is indicative of the production source and date.

On my engine bay inpection lamp securing arms I found the following:

Lower Lug has stamped : MOz.

Upper Lug has stamped : 2 Japanese symbols.

Does anyone have any idea of what is meant by them and are there any differences with anyone elses?

The stampings are easy to read with a light polish of the lug area around the securing screws.

I would love to see a picture. My very early lamp does not have the slotted screw mount cut on one side - rather two screw holes. It fastens the same to the body, but you have to pinch it a bit to get it to fit. The stampings are called "ken" and they indicate quality control marks or marks of manufature date. I think 1972 would have a 43 date? Take a look for it.

Add 25 to get the equivalent Western year from a Japanese Showa-era date:

1969 = Showa 44.

1970 = Showa 45.

1971 = Showa 46.

1972 = Showa 47.

1973 = Showa 48.

Showa 43 would be 1968, so not very likely to be seen on a Z - but on the other hand the "Trouble Light" / "Wander Light" / "Inspection Lamp" was used on other Nissan models too - so you never know...........

The reign of Emperor Showa started in 1925 ( Showa ichi-nen, or Showa year one ) and finished with his death in 1989. 1989 was the first year of Emperor Heisei. We are in Heisei 15 now ( I think :ermm: ).
