tmh708 Posted June 25, 2004 Share #1 Posted June 25, 2004 Have Fairlady Z and looking for the engine and drivetrain specs. Living in US without a clue about this engine ie. horsepower, torque etc. If anyone has information or where to look please lend some assistance. 70-74 L20 6cyl. Bleach Posted July 2, 2004 Share #2 Posted July 2, 2004 Well, back in 1970 the 240Z's ID plate said 150hp. That is flywheel horsepower. The Fairlady Z says 120hp. (from my memory)So I would guess the L24 is about 110-120 whp and the L20 about 90-100 whp.

Back on June 5th, we had a local club member run his '74 Fairlady (L20) on the dyno. This is a totally stock, JDM car. Power at the wheels was 88 hp. Bleach Posted July 2, 2004 Share #4 Posted July 2, 2004 88hp sounds about right. Barely more power than a stock L20b :cheeky:

Thank you Your best bet for the long-term would probably be to try and get hold of the Nissan engine Service Manual that covers the L20A engine ( as well as the L24, L26 & L28 ). This has ALL the data that you will need to have if you are the owner of one of these engines. Nissan publication number SM8E-0L28G0 was published through the 1990s, and you might be able to special-order a copy through your local Nissan dealer.Failing that, you might find one on ebay or at a specialist automotive literature dealer. Nissan quoted the stock figures for the L20A as 130 bhp at 6000rpm and 128 lb/ft at 4400rpm.

Got any equivalent data for the totally stock USA market cars on the same dyno on the same day?

HS30-H Posted July 6, 2004 Share #9 Posted July 6, 2004 No figures for bone-stock USA-market cars on the same day? That's a pity.I thought it would be useful to compare the stock L20 figures with the stock L24 figures on the same dyno on the same day.kmack, what kind of figures would you estimate for your transmission losses? And did you feel like the dyno was reading high, or low?Alan T.

And did you feel like the dyno was reading high, or low?Alan T. I have not seen very many stock 240's here in Texas. This post has my current setup: L24 Horsepower page 2, about half way down, posted 6/7/04.I agree it would be useful to see a comparison, but most people running a stock car, would not be likely to put it on a dyno. At least that's the way I see it.As for what my losses are, I'm not really sure. I just figure about 18%, which I guess is about standard. But that puts my crank output near 165 hp. Much higher than Nissan stated. So who knows? I do think the dyno was reading about right. There were a few Z32's that were they were supposed to be, at least according to the owners.
