that's strange, I installed these too. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33580&item=7908695394&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

But my ball-joints have a lot of play, when I jack up the car and shake the wheel on 9 and 3 o'clock. On the road my steering still shakes by 100mph.

There is nothing to do wrong ? I filled them up with grease. It looks for me, that the spring load under the balljoint is not high enough.

Any ideas ?

I try to avoid the generic import parts, especially for critical suspension and engine pieces.

FIRST CHOICE

Nissan OEM Ball Joints - www.midwestz.com

SECOND CHOICE

Moog Ball Joints - anyplace that sells Moog parts.

Unfortunately as I mentioned earlier I haven't had the opportunity to drive the Z yet so I don't know if I just wasted the money on those yet or not? I will keep my fingers crossed and see. The installation on the ball joints is really straight forward and nothing to mess up with the exception of ruining the threads, not putting grease in, or failing to tighten properly. If your still getting "play" then I would follow mdbrandy and bambikiller240's suggestion on brands and replace them. Especially if you do 100 plus! FWIW my $.02 worth

I have had no problems with the Ball Joints they are solid with no play. What shape is the rest of your spension in? I have always checked ball joint play by shaking the wheel at 6 and 12 not 3 and 9. When you shake the wheel at 3 and 9 you are moving the tie rods and rack.

Hi to all,

the test with 9 and 3 o'clock was correct. I could see that the rubber dust cap was moving. Could it be, that under this angle the sway bar is eliminating the spring load in this ball joint ?

I have installed the biggest sway bars in my car. A few weeks ago, I ordered some moog ball joints. Than I have something to compare.

Cheers

Rainer

Yes, You just change the position of your hands and shake. The 3 and 9 position checks for play on the tie rod ends and steering rack and the 12 and 6 position checks for play on the ball joints. Your not dumb...their is no stupid question except for the one you don't ask. This site has a wealth of information on it just search and find or if you can't find, just ask.
