I have heard that the first of the 260Zeds were actually fitted with the 240 body.

Can anyone tell me how to identify a 260 with a 240 body.

I should imagine that should make them rather scarse.

I don't know if this applies to Australia, but here in the US the early 260Z would be the ones built up to 7/74. I don't know if that means that they have the 240Z body but those were the ones with the smaller bumpers like a 73.

The guage of the metal? The weight (or if you can see the Side intrusion bar) of the doors?

I've heard the same thing too, but don't know if its anything more than a myth... it is true that when the 240Z changed to the 260Z the many little changes were not sudden - they were brought on gradually (due to oversupply of parts).

They are identifiable by the radiator support bar [frame].

The 240 is much higher off the ground, while the 260 is lower.

Early 260's had the 240 radiator support hence the difference.

Here in the US, the early 260Z (up to 7/74) did indeed have the same (basically) body as the 73 240Z and were equipped w/ carbed L26. There may be minor differences, but it is essentially the 240Z body. Later 260Z's had the 280Z body also w/ carbed L26.

the one indisputable change on the shells is the main frame rail length. that 240z main rail below the floor pan stops short of the end of the floor pan, the 260z frame rail continues to the end of the floor pan. I think is possibly one of the best defining lines between the two shells.

I am told it's the 73 240z shell that was a bit heavier and used for the early 260z 2 seater aswell.

My old 73 had the shorter fram rails and were not as thick to my memory i could be wrong.

I know my 72 is definately shorter and thinner.

Attach pics of your chassis underside.

And your radiator support.

G'Day there mates, I was worried for a while there; I couldn't find you all. Eventually checked in with Alfadog who put me in the picture. Now I'm having fun sorting out this new setup.

Anyway, when I finally got around to developing the pics of the radiator in "Precious" I couldn't find the site. So, here they are, LH side and RH side.
