Posted July 2, 200420 yr comment_87215 So, is the Fairlady Z hood emblem the same one as used on the 280ZX's? At first glance it appears the the same, however in the attached photo, the emblem looks thicker at the base. Any S30 Fairlady owners to confirm this? July 2, 200420 yr comment_87232 Confirmed. The home-market bonnet ( hood ) emblem on the S30-series Z cars was NOT the same as that on the S130 series. You are right - it was thicker and a slightly different shape. July 21, 200420 yr comment_88413 Yup Yup! Confirmed again. The Fairlady Z emblem goes over a slight curve in the hood while my 280ZX's hood is more flat. The ZX emblem is very thin. But I suppose I could use a ZX hood emblem for a replacement if need be. July 21, 200420 yr comment_88421 Every now and then I see these emblems go for sale on ebay. Are the Fairlady Z hood emblems metal or plastic?Ben Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12441-fairlady-z-hood-emblem/#findComment-88421 Share on other sites
July 21, 200420 yr comment_88448 I'm pretty sure the Fairlady Z emblem is plastic. We're talking about just the round Z on the hood. I've also seen the FAIRLADY Z fender emblems on eBay. I could use 1, 2 or 3 of those. $$$$$ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12441-fairlady-z-hood-emblem/#findComment-88448 Share on other sites
July 21, 200420 yr comment_88460 Original ones were 'Pot Metal' / 'Mazak' castings.Like most of the emblems, they were later changed to plastic - but they were originally metal. The metal one on my ZG is starting to show its age; its deteriorating in the way that Mazak loves to - pimpling up and going dull...........Like me. Lets not potty mouth ourselves. The car is becoming more refined with age. As we all are. Who wants a new emblem when they can say that this emblem is original to the car??? Probably a lot of people, but some of us are those sticklers. Eventually I would like a really nice paint job, original color of course, but leaving the pitted, pimpled, chipped, dull, OG, and refined emblems on my car. It gives it character Alan. Are many people familiar with the ZG in England? I would be refreshing to see it in a magazine article in one of the British Classic Car mags so all us non-Japanese residents can get an informative story on a very Japapnese car. This is a bit off topic, but I was watching a show on "Eleanor" the Shelby GT500 the other night on TLC and the narrator said that a bone stock 1967 289 fastback Mustang had a top speed of 110mph. I thought that was interesting considering a stock 240z was claimed at going 125mph. Correct me if I am wrong, but the ZG topped out at 130mph. These Z's are truely revolutionary and if they took down a Mustang of the era that was packing a v8, all the better. August 19, 200420 yr comment_91784 I had a '71 240z in college. - 110+ on the spedometer with pedal to spare, I started drifting and slowed down. It was all stock. I miss that car!
