Posted July 2, 200420 yr comment_87282 Were the door ding strips factory installed or after market items? In other posts I saw that some were screwed right into the sheet metal and others were glued. My assumption is the glued ones were after market or dealer addons . Is this correct? July 2, 200420 yr comment_87285 I think they were all dealer add-ons. Mine were riveted on. Now they're gone. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12447-door-ding-strips/#findComment-87285 Share on other sites

July 7, 200420 yr comment_87753 how would i go about removing the rivets anyway? There is only a ding strip on one side. Looks kinda bad. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12447-door-ding-strips/#findComment-87753 Share on other sites

You drill out the center of the rivet. Then you'll need to weld the holes in the sheet metal closed. July 27, 200420 yr comment_89083 I just had my 75 repainted, and removed and replaced the ding strips myself. Easy to do...drill out the old rivets and pop-rivet them back on afta. Be carefull when reattaching strips, so as not to scratch paint Did that on first rivet...when gun popped off ! 26thZ-- my Z looks like your color...what paint code ? Mine is 303 . July 28, 200420 yr comment_89133 Removed them so the paint job would be better ( less masking, etc )Put them back on cause I don't dislike the looks..and they were a normaldealer accessory in the mid 70's, so to remain "true to the period".Also, they were in great shape...chrome tips and vinyl inserts just like new.
