So, has anyone noticed the similar look of the Infinity G35 Coupe and the 350z ?! Let's also not forget the similar look of the Audi TT model which came out a few years ago.

Are car manufacturers losing their creative spirit? Do they need to copy each other just to get something interesting on the market? Or, do they all perform the same studies and come up with identical designs? It really makes you wonder.

I actually think if they had done a little better design to integrate the lights into the body lines to complement it, instead of making them look like an afterthought, I might be able to let some of the other odd pieces slide. Maybe a set of lights like on the BMW sedans and a better set of more rectangular taillights, like the last generation 300zx, and the body wouldn't look so bizarre.

Ever wonder why these idiots take the front turn signals and mount them so close to those bright headlights? How many times have you sat across an intersection from a car with the projector beam headlights and had to look away from the glare? How do they expect you to know if they are going to do the "race you to the middle so I can turn left before you go straight" principle that has taken over so many drivers?

Unfortunately I think the 350 is going to be like the Pontiac Aztek, just too different and sales may suffer. Perhaps in a year or so they will end up re-designing it and smoothing out the rough edges in the design. For those of us who would like one, we can only hope.

A couple of point. Firs, Infinity is not technically owned by Nissan. Rather it IS Nissan. All of the Infinity cars over here are Nissan in Japan. The created the Infinity brand name to give the impression of luxury just like GM did with Cadillac, Honda with Acura and Toyota with Lexus. Each of those pair of companies is one and the same. Second the Infinity G35 sport coupe has been in developement for a little while longer than the 350z and it is going to be then New Nissan Skyline. Obviously they want it to be considered a luxury car over here so it will be badged Infinity. Notice the G35 designation while the last few skylines have been designated R34 R33 and so on. I have been led to believe that it deal with the fact that they have/will be changing the power plant from the RB26DETT(2.6 liter inline 6 twin tubo) with the same powerplant as the new Z. Initially they had talked about continuing using the inline 6 in Japan's version and a new 400hp NA V8. Obviously that fell through.

I agree Owen. You could say the same thing about the new mini and beetle as well. The designers successfully carried over the character of the original car into a modern design.

Nissan definitely should have gone back to the original beauty of the 240Z. As opposed to making a derivative design and adding wacky head lights and tail lights to differentiate it from the competitors.

IMHO, Volkswagen did the best job so far when they re-created the original beetle. It's got the same design characteristics, only with modern technology. The price is affordable by most of the population.

Nissan missed the mark when they priced the Z around $26k-$36k. They forgot why they sold soo many Z's!!

By design, I agree totally... however it is definitely NOT totally true to heritage in my opinion. Affordable to most of the population? No way... as much as they tried, it's more novelty than anything else. I mean what kind of car has a flower holder in it?
