Footrest?

Whether folks choose to discuss / participate the items is something that we will have to wait and see.

However, as a source of information for those of us who are interested, but may not have a lot of comments about it, it is invaluable.

There are so many items that were OEM accessories that are confused with After Market Add-Ons, and vice-versa. I think that a post that identifies the source of the material, in this case the JAPANESE Market Parts Catalogue, and what each of the original items were, would in the long run, serve as a myth buster or at least a clarification point.

From the pictures, it seems as though the "bumperettes" / Bumper Guards / Overriders / Vertical Bumpers, were an accessory. I think that alone will open some discussion as I think the majority of members here and elsewhere, and not just U.S. members, are of the opinion that they came on ALL cars.

On a different vein, while many members have installed Fog Lamps on their car, they are, invariably, an after market match to whatever style they felt best matched their car. What did the originals look like? As someone posted on another thread, many of these parts are no longer available in any form from Nissan and Dealers. Many of the cars did not have them to begin with, and therefore, finding one in a boneyard is a true shot in the dark. So for the collector who is trying to find those hard to find accessories, the only answer might be an item from another car marque and / or an after- market supplier.

Lastly, there are pictures on that page that seem to identify other accessories, but it isn't immediately apparent as to what they are. I will bet that some of those items may prove to be a pleasant surprise to some members.

As to whether people will read or participate? In the past, I've noticed that many folks do, if not initially....eventually. Many of those posts are now referenced by others in the same vein in other discussions.

Just my 2¢

I agree with your statements Enrique. However, whether any person joins in the discussion, or just reads the thread and learns from it really shouldn't matter. Either way the thread will have served a useful purpose. The value of a thread should not be measured solely on how many replies it draws. (see ChrisA's post above)

Bambikiller240,

What point exactly are you trying to make with the quote above?

................

The point I was trying to make on the original subject of the "Assistant's Footrest" was that the thread came to an abrupt halt when I posted some information and pics relevant to the subject matter. Neither the person who started the thread, nor any of the original posters on the thread, came back with any further comment related to the subject. It just stalled. I found that odd, that's all. Made me wonder if I'd killed it.

I thought there was a least a little more life left in the thread subject, but I was obviously mistaken.

Alan; The point I was trying to make is the same as in my reply to Enrique immediately above this post. I don't subscribe to the belief that the value of a thread is directly proportional to the number of replies that it draws. People can learn from it and enjoy it without being part of the discussion. Not being a part of the discussion doesn't mean that people are not interested, but even if they don't believe that the fine details of the marque matter, it doesn't make them "deluded, conceited and - frankly - rather sad."

The quoted text just sounded a bit pompous and condecending the way I read it, as if there is no room for people to enjoy the car on their own terms.

JMO (and no hard feelings meant)

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If anybody thinks they know everything about first-generation Z cars, and there is nothing worth knowing left to know, then they would have to be deluded, conceited and - frankly - rather sad.

Bambikiller240,

I think I can see a big gap between the way you think and the way I think.

Maybe the above comment came off as more than a little "pompous" to you ( not the first time I've been accused of that on this site, and probably not the last ) but to extract the LAST part of the quote, isolate it from its context, and then insert it with relation to quite a different subject, comes across - to me at least - as missing the point and *possibly* trying to make another altogether.............

Do you actually understand the point I was trying to make? I don't mean do you agree; I mean do you actually understand? Did you understand that it was written in reply to the question from ALT_ 255: "HS30-H.. is there anything datsun related you dont know about?"? How would you recommend I answer such a question?

There's a quote ( James Boswell, as far as I remember ) about London: "He who is tired of London is tired of life itself". That's the kind of thinking I was trying to sum up. Obviously not well enough. Of course everybody should, and ought to, enjoy these cars on their own terms. I'm not saying otherwise, am I?

Where I come from, my comment would be seen as somewhat self-deprecating ( especially in the light of the post to which it was replying ). But I guess maybe that just doesn't come across where you come from?

Note to self: I'll have to be much more careful about what I write and the way I write it on here in future.

If you've got me down as any kind of guru or oracle then you are greatly mistaken.

This part of the post does sound self deprecating. (Actually, many of us *myself included* do look at you in that way, mistaken or not)

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If anybody thinks they know everything about first-generation Z cars, and there is nothing worth knowing left to know, then they would have to be deluded, conceited and - frankly - rather sad.

In the original post, this statement was separated from the other statements by a blank line (separate paragraph?) ,therefore I took it to be a separate statement from the others. Also, I said it sounded "a bit" pompous, not "more than a little"...... (I hope I am not picking nits here) so please understand that I did not mean anything more than "a bit".

Of course everybody should, and ought to, enjoy these cars on their own terms. I'm not saying otherwise, am I?

Hopefully not, but to me it sounded like you might have been saying that.

I still think you don't understand.

My whole post ( the one you pulled the "pompous" quote from ) was in answer to the post by ALT_255, which asked a question ( maybe rhetorically? ) that was difficult to answer elegantly - at least for me it was......

I chose to start another line ( paragraph even, wow! ) for emphasis and - dare I say - style. It just looks neater to me, and scans a bit better. Posts that scan better really ought to be easier for all to understand too.

I still don't understand how you can say the post was "pompous". I'd really like to ask you to put yourself in my position and answer ALT_255's question, whilst avoiding being both pompous and flippant.

Go on, try it. Educate me.

How's that for pompous?

It was the Quote (only) that sounded "a bit" pompous, not the entire post, otherwise I'd have included the entire post in the quote. As I said, since the statements were separated, I took them to be separate.

I don't think you need educating, any more than I do. Your first statement answered the question posed by ALT_255 quite well. Your second statement seemed to be a dig at people who were not motivated to continue the discussion of the footrest or acessory page. If you didn't mean it that way OK, but that is the way it came across here (to me).

PS If you wish to continue to discuss, please, let's do it in PM, rather than hijack the thread.
