Guess what my MPG is on new L28?

My 260 made 24.7mpg on the trip to Longbeach. However, with highway and city driving here in Stockton, it gets about 18mpg. That is with AC too. As long as it stays around 18mpg, I am happy. I did get 14mpg one time though. Errr.

I remember seeing a post a long time ago on zcar.com from a guy claiming to have gotten 35mpg ONCE on one trip that was all highway. He had ztherapy SUs, an n42 head and some headers on an L28 iirc.

He mentioned he got 28mpg usually during "normal" use.

Not sure if this is one of those fish stories or something, but I was impressed

Either he's got about a 3.00-1 rear end (not even sure if that would do it), doesn't know how to calculate mpg, or he's full of crap! Been dealing with these cars for almost 35 years and the best I've ever seen from a L-engine Z car is the 28.4 I got last summer in my 78.:ermm:

Driving a 1978 280Z with a 3-speed automatic driving the car very rough, with quick acceleration and an occational full throttle...

I get the following...

City : 19 MPG!

Highway : 23 MPG!

*Don't forget I am a MILE HIGH in Denver Colorado with this thin air*

I just recently made my own custom cold air intake, and it definatly helps and get's all that fresh air coming into the grill of the front of the Z.

Before I was getting like 14 MPG city and maybe 18 MPG on the highway.

My essentially bone-stock 1978 280Z with L28 gets 17-19 consistently in the city, depending on how hard I throw it around. I've only had it on the highway a couple times, and it seems to get in the low 20's.

I seem to remember seeing, although I cannot find it right now, that the EPA sticker on a 1978 280Z was 18 mpg in the city.

Just took a trip in my 240Z this past weekend. About 270 miles round trip, 75-85 mph on highway for about 90% of the trip. Calculated mileage at 27.8 mpg! Basically a stock L24 w/ headers and a K&N filter. Last dyno run said it was running slightly rich, too.

Mostly in town I get around 22 or 23 mpg. Worst I've seen is two days of hard track use at about 15-16 mpg.
