Recommended Posts

How do I identify an R 200 center unit from pictures on ebay or other such sites when the lister isn't really sure what they have?

jhotimports has a few lsd rear ends from skyline, 200's 240's but is unclear as to what they are.

I really need help here

thanks in advance.

Lots of Japanese domestic models got the R200 with LSD in various ratios, and they don't have finned rear covers.

Any diff you find could have been fitted with either a Nissan option LSD unit, or a NISMO LSD unit, or one of several other aftermarket brands of LSD. You never know. Of course, if you are buying in the USA this ls less likely, but not an impossibility.

To be 100% sure - and to identify the ratio at the same time - take off the back cover. If the vendor does not want to do this, then I would have to say that he is not maximising the sales potential of the item.

Here's a pic of one of my LSD-equipped R200's with the back off:

I am sorry I did not make myself clear, I can handle figuring out the lsd stuff, I need help deciding from a picture and possibly a casting number, what that rear end might be. Can anyone help me with that?

thank you for the above replys none-the-less

You should have said that you were talking about the 'Short Case' R200 rather than the 'Long Case' R200 in the beginning. It would have saved time.

But I still don't understand the question. The internal parts of the R32-type R200 are not designed to fit in the earlier ( long case ) R200, and you would struggle to fit the complete R32-type diff in your Z. What is it you are thinking of doing exactly?

If you want to have an LSD-equipped R200 with a suitable ratio that is a virtual bolt-in for your early Z, then I recommend that you look for the earlier long case type and forget about the one in your pictures.

sorry for my poor explanation, but it seems you figured it out. from my view, the diff in the pics looked similar to my R200, but I could not be certian. I am currently looking for 3 R200 lsd for a few projects I have going. I wondered if these late model center sections would fit.

I have recently purchased an rb26dett and still havent decided if it will go into the 240 or the 260. I digress.....

what late model center sections are long case? more specifically which late model cars should I hunt for to find a sutiable center section for my 72 or 74.

I am aware of relocation issues, moustache bars etc.... I just wanted to get this done without having to buy another C4 center section.

Thank you so much for your patience and time on this one.
