mdbrandy Posted July 20, 2004 Share #1 Posted July 20, 2004 Don't let anyone say we don't have Z's here in Central Illinois! Found this one this past weekend here in the backyard of a condemned house in Champaign. Been sitting since 1990. Owner said I could take anything I wanted. Took a few FI parts, and a good, uncracked, unchipped windshield, but that's about it! the entire undercarriage is buried in a foot of mud and dirt! Makes ya wanna cry
Bambikiller240 Posted July 20, 2004 Share #2 Posted July 20, 2004 Wow, You were't kidding about this car being a "planter".Pretty cool that we can now attach more than one pic to a post!
mdbrandy Posted July 20, 2004 Author Share #3 Posted July 20, 2004 Yeah, you should have seen me after I took the few parts I wanted - covered head to toe in dirt!
Zrush Posted July 20, 2004 Share #4 Posted July 20, 2004 That shot of the left front wheel cover..........are there 4 of them and are they worth saving? You know what's funny is the rubber around the rear hatch area looks good, but you know it's got to be trashed Vicky

Russ83ZXna Posted July 20, 2004 Share #6 Posted July 20, 2004 So when are you going to start restoring the car. It looks like it could be fixed up. It just needs some paint and putty.
mdbrandy Posted July 20, 2004 Author Share #7 Posted July 20, 2004 That shot of the left front wheel cover..........are there 4 of them and are they worth saving? You know what's funny is the rubber around the rear hatch area looks good, but you know it's got to be trashed Vicky There were only 3, and I popped off the center Z caps from all of those. I already have 8 280Z style wheel covers that I don't really need, so i didn't want 3 more that are probably rusted to the wheels anyway!
26th-Z Posted July 20, 2004 Share #8 Posted July 20, 2004 Mark,Your pictures are just fantastic. Do you mind if I use them for my upcoming comedy routine? Actually, that car would make a real great candidate for the "Gross-out Pig Award"! Great find. :lick:
Bleach Posted July 20, 2004 Share #9 Posted July 20, 2004 Wow! That is more fender rust then I have ever seen on a Z. If I was there I would have stripped that thing down more. I see side markers and tail lights that are in good shape. Rear quarter glass... the little Z side emblem.
mdbrandy Posted July 20, 2004 Author Share #10 Posted July 20, 2004 Wow! That is more fender rust then I have ever seen on a Z. If I was there I would have stripped that thing down more. I see side markers and tail lights that are in good shape. Rear quarter glass... the little Z side emblem. Actually I got the side markers, and the headlights, and the license plate light. I wanted the tail lights, but I didn't want to shovel out the hatch to get to them. God only knows what kind of stuff is living in there. Couldn't get the quarter windows, since I couldn't even get the doors open. Locks were rusted solid, and even a crow bar couldn't pop them open. I tried. I reached through the (broken) drivers window and managed to get the turn signal/ light switch assembly and the horn button. I may go back and see if I can strip some more (I should have grabbed the distributor), but last Saturday, I was Hot, tired, and very dirty after the 3 hours I spent unearthing what I did! waynekarnes Posted July 20, 2004 Share #11 Posted July 20, 2004 back around 76, still living at home, i had a 31 chevy pick up. a very driveable, dependable project. my interests moved to a 65 gto, so the truck sat in my parent's driveway. my mom filled the bed up with dirt and planted strawberries in it. i didn't get to drive the truck, until the end of the season.
