Fire behind my steering column!

Well GOOD NEWS :)

I checked everything out, and replaced ALL the fuses in the fuse bus. Even though some of them did not look blown, except 2 of em, some actually were.

So I got everything back up, and the voltage guage was reading an inaccurate reading because of the blown fuses.

My only problem was I couldn't find out why the headlight's were not working or the turn signals...

The headlight's didn't work because of a broken fusable link.. which I checked, but I must have overlooked it too much...

As for the turn signals, the turn signal assembly was fried and actually melted together.

I took my 280Z to an Automotive electronics shop and got it diagnosed and repaired for only $107.82. Not too bad, saved me several more hours of agony in my car upside down, and I got it professionally fixed.

The guy even mended and repaired the turn signal assmbly but he said it may not last forever, so a new one up ahead is a good idea.

Cool,

thanks everyone for your help, that's why I LOVE CLASSICZCARS .COM!!

You guys are the best,

Ryan

  • 2 weeks later...

I had smoke coming out at one instant and my son told me that he had the same experience at another occasion. In both cases this happened when the right hand turn signal was on for an extended period. My guess is,this is due to oxidized and worn out contacts since I have checked the switch and the wires from outside.Planning to get a better switch installed asap.
