Posted July 24, 200420 yr comment_88760 Hello everyone. I am restoring a 1970 240Z #11230. I am putting in a more powerful 2.8L motor, so it will not be stock. My question is, should I use the nicer Miata seats, with the speakers in the headrest, or refurbish the original seats. Any input would be helpful. Thanks, Rick. July 25, 200420 yr comment_88776 ......that's a matter of opinion, I think! Miata seats if you want more support, and the gimmicky speakers behind your head, and dont care about the "originality" look. Restore the old ones if you think that originality is important....... It's up to you :| Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12647-seats/#findComment-88776 Share on other sites
July 25, 200420 yr comment_88789 AlphaDog is right. If you use other seats, keep the original ones as well so that one day when(and if) you get older and wiser you can put the car back to factory. My car is getting different seats as well-obviously I haven't hit the "old fart" stage either, but I am keeping the old seats just in case! If your block number matches your data plate, and isn't in bad shape, I would keep it too, and any parts you need to modify in the course of updating, find a spare and modify the one in worst shape.(It is a bite in the arse to cut a piece to make something fit only to find out a replacement part is worth more than the the whole modification you had cut the piece for)Especially with an early Z, I would keep all of the original pieces that are unique an traceable to the car. What you sell them for today you will have to put money(probably big) with to buy them back tomorrow. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12647-seats/#findComment-88789 Share on other sites
July 25, 200420 yr Author comment_88808 Definately, the next owner will benefit. I have all the original pieces and all the numbers match. They will get a lot of parts with the car. August 12, 200420 yr comment_90924 I have restored my original seats, reapholseterd and everything... BUTthe back of the seat is not straight. it seems that the left side hinge is holding firm when the right side bends back a little more, making my back rest at funny angle; shifting my entire back to the right. is there a way to fix this ?? don't really want to replace these seats, just want to sit straight. August 12, 200420 yr Author comment_90928 My guess is that your sliders are off. Take the seat out and just make sure. Good luck, Rick. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12647-seats/#findComment-90928 Share on other sites
