Stumped - Getting an R200 out from under a 280zx

Howdy all,

I have done a search on the forums and didn't find an answer easily.....anyway I have an R200 ready to come out from a junker 280zx and the rear mount doesn't have enough play to slip off the big pin sitting in the chassis or off the bolts from the rear cover. The diff moves but I can't get enough play to get the rear mount off.

It all sounds so easy in the Haynes Manual!!! :stupid: :cross-eye

The only other idea I have is cutting the rubber on the rear mount to see if I can get it off.

Any tips from the wise with cuts on their knuckles

It's been a while since I pulled one but I remember it came out pretty easy. I think I removed the driveshaft's and all the supporting bolts, then slid the diff forward enough to get the rear mount out of the way. Then it moved back no problem. Sorry I can't be of more help, maybe you could buy me a plane ticket down there and I would be happy to take it out for you :classic: (kidding).

When I got mine off my junker I had the car rolled on its side. The front mounts came off no problem, but the rear on was a pain. I used a old wrench, a pipe, and a hammer. It was on real tight but after a lot of pounding it started to come a .25 inch at a time. I thought of cutting it, but it would have taken longer with a hack saw.

Why don't you guys just remove the forward (towards front of diffy) cross member and un-do the two nuts on back of diffy???

The struts, and a-arms will be still connected to rear cross member and the moustash bar stays where it is (unless you need it later). The diffy will move forwards and down.

Thanks guys for your help - with the suspension cross member in place the diff was catching on the chassis rail going across the floor so taking your advice I undid the suspension cross member nuts (not all the way and then jacked the car up with the suspension still sitting on the axle stands.

Hey presto - plenty of room and the diff came out easily.
