rear suspension issue

Recommended Posts

In disassembling my recently acquired 71 240, I noticed that the rear 'control arms' (the triangular pieces on each side, bottom, facing road that the strut, etc. sits on) are not installed the same on each side. On the passenger side, the flange surrounding the piece faces down, while on the driver side it faces up. I am wondering if the previous owner may have had this apart, and re-installed incorrectly. I have been unable to find any photos illustrating this point. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance-

Jody

That's the way they are supposed to be, they are the same part for both sides and they interchange. You just flip one over for the opposite side.

It's one more thing that Nissan saved money on so the car could be sold for a reasonable price....

Thanks, didn't want to sound like an idiot, but it looked rather strange to me. I keep hearing horror stories about Poly bushings...I'd like to do a whole-suspension changeover of all the bushings, any suggestions? It is 100% original, won't be seeing any autocrosses, but I would like tighter handling....

Thanks Again-

Where do you hear horror storys about PU bushings? Not on this site!

If you want tighter handling, you basically have two choices, SOLID mount (aluminum/delrin, or heim joints), or Polyeurethane. AFAIK, there isn't much else to choose from. Generally SOLID mounts are not recommended for street driven cars.

If you don't autocross or don't want "tighter handling" then stick with OEM Rubber bushings.
