Hey all,

I am in need of the air balance tube for a '71. More importantly I need the linkage for that tube in particular (the short linkage). It seems the SU's I bought from a friend didn't come with this part and he has thrown out all his other stuff.

Thanks guys.

Ahh! This seems like a perfect opportunity to lay-forth some constructive criticism for individuals new to this site or any other car related sites. The regulars here will concur....I think.

First off, this site has members with a vast amount of knowledge and or experiences regarding the early Z cars that will benifit people who are sincerely at thier ends for an answer. However, when people post questions and have obviously not taken the most rudimentry steps in thier information quest, such as making an effort to do a little research on their own, it is likely they will get responces that at first glance seem to be a little rude or they may get no responce at all. Having the ability to find this site and operate a computer surely implies that an individual has the intelligence to prepare themselves before asking questions. Let me put it another way if I may, when you pick up a dictionary you can't expect it to give you an answer unless you search through the pages for it. This site is no different. The key here is, if you are looking for something you have to look. No matter what you do in life, there is always a price to pay!!!

I'll climb down off my little saop box now and wish you the best of luck in your search for knowledge. Oh, by the way.........try some pic-a-parts yards that deal have Z cars.

P.S. This post is not intended to offend anyone but to provide a little guidance to new members. :classic:

Steve,

Did you have the flat top SU's at one time ? If so you can pull the roll pin

and use the longer shaft on an earlier manifold to meet up with the fire wall

linkage I have done it and it works fine.

I looked for the part that i needed on this site and a few others. I TRUST this site and I have been visiting here for quite sometime, a post count is a poor judge of how long someone has been a part of the "club" be that Z's or cars in general. :finger:

I have been checking Ebay very often trying to maybe just find the part that i need, everyone is trying to sell the whole enchilada, i just need some bell peppers. I refuse to spend $70 on a part that should only be a few dollars.

On the same note, yes I could go to say Z-Therapy or any other of a number of reputable Z shops on line or in my area. I however dont need a show quality part nor do I desire,as above ,to pay a lot for someone elses spare parts.

I just wanted a simple part, if you want to lay down a rashin of poop do it to somebody else please. Like maybe the guy that wanted to put a V8 in an almost prestine Z. I appreciate your efforts but i think they are misplaced.

Now that being said , The balance tube on the car now is from the '73. It is driving a pair of Weber DGV's, which until recently had been giving me a lot of problems. I figured out how to tune them and they run very well now.

I have always been curious as to how the car would behave with SU's. And so when my friend said he was selling his SU's I jumped on them.

I will include a picture of the SU balance tube I have and the DGV's I have. I have been told and seen on more than one occacion that this linkage and balance tube is not interchangable. Thats why i posted this.

If it sounds like I'm talking out my a$$, It's very possible.

don't your DGV's just use an adaptor to mount to your intake manifolds, And if they do, are they removable and can the new S.U's bolt to that location, without swapping intakes or the ballance tube??

sorry. It's been a while.

Dave.

Steve: I think that you will find that these balance tubes for the early SU's are in quite high demand due to people wanting to dump the Flat-Top carbs on their 73 and 74 Z's, not to mention people like yourself switching back to SU's from Webers, 4 bbl's and other carbs. To say that they "should only be a few dollars" is fine as a personal opinion, but does not reflect the reality of the market for them.

FYI, ZTherapy used to have balance tubes that were not of "show quality" as well as the polished, fancy ones. They were cheaper than the polished ones, but were not sold for just a "few dollars".

I hope you find what you are looking for, but unless you are very lucky you are not going to find one for "a few dollars". The market drives the price, and the market demand is quite high.
