Posted August 4, 200420 yr comment_89839 Lost Zed keys whilst moving house. Looked everywhere but they are gone gone gone. So I wrote down the key codes on the sticker located inside the glovebox.Local Nissan dealer is useless.....a waste of space!!!Local locksmith is a goodin. He looked up his computer and cut the ignition key from just the number I supplied him.Door key is a different matter. The code is 4 digits long. He says that it should start with a letter. It sure doesn't. Do all S30's have 4 digit lock codes? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12756-key-codes/ Share on other sites
August 4, 200420 yr comment_89840 [snip]So I wrote down the key codes on the sticker located inside the glovebox.Really? Glove box.I've just learnt something new, must have a look tonight for mine and write them down somewhere safe [like my journel on this site]!Not that this helps, but at least you don't need to go through the pain of drilling out the ignition. Can you remove the rear hatch lock [it's the easiest], then off to the locksmith and he may be able to work from that?MOM Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12756-key-codes/#findComment-89840 Share on other sites
August 5, 200420 yr comment_89957 My Z ownership experiences have only extended as far back as a '76 280Z but, my Z's have always had a letter (usually an "M") and then a four digit code. If not in the glovebox it might be in your original paperwork (if you have it) from when the car was first delivered. It can be found in the warranty information pamphlet. August 5, 200420 yr comment_89960 My '72 240Z key code starts with a M and then a 4 digit number. It's on a sticker on the inside of the glovebox door. Vicky Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12756-key-codes/#findComment-89960 Share on other sites
August 5, 200420 yr comment_89961 Ditto to the M for a "72". You have a different key for the doors than the ignition? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12756-key-codes/#findComment-89961 Share on other sites

August 5, 200420 yr comment_89982 The door key for my 1970 240Z is the original single sided key and has only a 4 digit number. The ignition key, also the single sided type, has 2 letters with 4 digits as it's code. August 5, 200420 yr Author comment_89990 I took off the drivers door lock and it has just a 4 digit code. The hatch lock has no numbers stamped at all.I'm thinking that I might take a punt on telling him that he should put a M in front and try that on their lock computer records.I'll let you all know the outcome.Locksmith says that he can pull the lock apart, figure out the tumblers and then cut a key anyway. All for $30NZ, that's US$18....not too bad. Cheaper than relocking the entire car. Remember that the door key also locks the glovebox. August 6, 200420 yr comment_90002 Never heard of that before, Vicky?Anyone else have similar locks like this?MOMThat is the way my 73 and late 71 Z's were, and I suspect that my 72 was that way before the P.O. played around. Currently my Hatch has a different lock/key. All are two sided keys. The OEM Lock Set I bought friom Courtesy Nissan late last year has all locks keyed alike.
