Use a inline filter between the pump and the tank to protect it from any crud coming form the tank.

Hey Beandip (or others),

I'm curious about what kind of inline filter you are referring to? Did you just use the same kind that is up in the engine bay? Or is it a specialty filter?

Also, i'd really appreciate a pic of your rx-7 fuel pump and filter setup.

Bambikiller, Thanks for the tip on how to use quotes!

thanks,

Ty

Thanks for the help and the encouragement. and i think 240ZX is probably right in that i should concentrate on getting married first, then worry about making the engine right. however, i would prefer to only have to pull the engine once, so if there are some essential items that can only be done with the engine out, i'd like to do it now. This is the first engine swap i've done, thus, i am very inexperienced with engine work. I've heard that i should replace the engine mount rubber, is this necessary?

ChrisA: I have an N47 head. not sure if it has the fuel pump holes or not.

the oil pan gasket does need to be replaced. where would i get a Fel-Pro kit, and what does it contain? i'm hoping to aviod calling MSA and having them sell me stuff i don't really need. As usual, the budget for this project is small and pretty much exhausted.

Bambikilller, good call on cleaning the engine bay.

Thanks,

Ty

Before you go out an blow a bunch of cash on a electric pump , have a look at the local bone yard and see if you can come up with a electric pump from a '79 and early '80s pump from a RX-7 , no regulator needed and works like a champ and quiet too. I paid $15. for mine . Have a look at the rear main seal and replace it if there is ANY question of it seeping , the same with the pan gasket. Do NOT disterb any crud inside the engine block when you pull the pan , if you dislodge any chuncks they could block an oil passage . Just clean out the pan. Dont use sylicone sealer on the gasket , if you do use it spairingly . If the clutch is in question change it also and the throwout bearing . All the best to you and your Bride.

You could use almost any kind of fuel filter, so long as it is designed for a carbureted car. (That is a low pressure fuel system) Just remember that there is an "in" and an "out" for most if not all of these filters, don't mix them up..
