Handbrake Return Spring?

Does any one know where other end of this spring is supposed to attach to?

There is no mention of it in the Hayes manual, but it does show up in the Victoria British catalog. When I took it off it was wraped around the trunnion bolt, but it didn't seem to be doing anything. Any help would be appreciated

There should be a small tab on the body right in between the brackets that the cable is mounted to.

The Spring is hanging from the small hook between the cable brackets. There just doesn't seem to any place on the cable assembly to hook the spring onto.

As 2ManyZs pointed out, there is a little tab on the body.

Its a small triangular shape with rounded corners, and its pushed out of the pressing which the Handbrake brackets are attached to. Its so small that you might be missing it.............

You can't see from the photo but the spring is hanging from the spring tab. There just doesn't seem to be any where to attach onto the cable. May be if I turn the spring around, the other end has a longer hook on it. That might let me hook onto the trunnion.

Well, if you have one end of the return spring attached to the tab on the body, then - as far as I remember - the other end needs to be attached to the U-shaped hanger ( Nissan call it the "Equaliser" ) that the centre section of the handbrake cable sits in.

Can you see a small slot on the Equaliser, right where the clevis pin runs through it?

Thanks for the reply HS30-H. There isn't anywhere on the "Equaliser" to attach the spring to that I can tell. Without seeing a picture of one installed I'm only guessing. It might not be the correct spring. I'm just going to leave it for now.

The short end of the spring goes to the tab on the body. The long end of the spring goes in a little hole where the center pin attaches to the equilizer. The hole is small and right next to the pin on the back side.

I found this pic in another thread about removing the rear diff.

My spring is about four times bigger no wonder I can't hook it up. I'll try to get a new spring.
