I thought about making something similar for my restoration. The problem is how do you lift it to the 90 degree angle.

You need about 4 bodybuilders or a crane.

Ed- that's what I thought.... I was able to unbolt the front suspension from the unibody, leaving the engine and tranny on

the cross member, teetered it like a wheelbarrow... now just to get it painted and bolted back together....

Of course, I put a lot of weight in the back for counterbalancing....

Agreed, teetering is easier than 'tilting' the way those lifts work...

I thought the 'tilter' had a mechanism for lifting the car - i.e. is that why the 'third' wheel is removed?

I ordered it from Kmack (member here) and while it is similar to an engine stand, it is taller, and made out of heavier materials than the two I have from Harbor Freight. I could not have made it for what I paid for it in terms of time or materials. Ken made t to work with several Datsuns with only some modifications to the body mounts. I have several cars that will be using it after the '72 is back on her "feet" I am almost through adapting it so that I can roll the whole thing loaded with a body on a trailer and take it to be media blasted or shot with urethane bedliner.

Another thought I have had is: My garage it too narrow to paint in, but if I motorize the rotissie, I can push th car to one side to where it will just clear the wall, and have plenty of room to paint the car top and bottom, also turning it upside down will keep the dust from settling on the hood and roof and allow me to paint the car more comfortably. I would have to work out some stand-offs to allow me to paint the rear bumper area that is covered by the rear mount.

There is a Harbor Freight here in town, and buying a 2000lb electric cilynder winch to sacrifice for the project is not beneath me!
