Radiator shrouds aftermarket or factory item?

Pulled this of my 70 240 this afternoon, any thoughts to it being a factory option, dealer installed, or plain old aftermarket job...its metal and attaches to the back side of radiator.

I've searched and haven't found this question addressed.

Thanks,

David Spillman

My '73 240Z has the same full fan shroud. From what I understand this was an optional item for A/C equipped Z's, which was a dealer option.

My knowledge is on the subject is far from complete, can anyone set the record straight?

If it's metal, it's a factory item (added by dealers) that was made available in the USA beginning in 73. Actually, from what I have heard, it was one of the items (like the electric fuel pump, and insulation wraps for the fuel rail) that was used to address the fuel vapor lock, and other heat related issues encountered when the Flat Top carbs were used on 73 240Z's. Dealers would have been wise to use it with aftermarket A/C as well.

If you choose not to use it, you can get a good price for it on eBay. I don't know about the $5 one that Bill mentioned, but either that one was somehow different, or all the bidders with knowledge of what it was were asleep at the keyboard. I've seen them go for around $75 on several occasions.

This car never had A/C and its history is unknown..may have been swaaped in to help with cooling...Although the most of the car is quite "original" so to speak as far as other parts are concerned. What Carl says makes sense for the 73, with all the problems they had with cooling/vapor lock issues....
