i FINALLY GOT MY Z GOING BUT THE EXHAUST WAS SHOT. i COULDNT GET A REPLACEMENT FROM THE LOCAL FOREIGN PARTS DEALER AND WENT TO mIDAS. tHEY USED MY EXISTING HEADER AND BENT NEW 2 INCH PIPE AND ADDED TWO BULLET RESONATORS IN SERIES. oNE IN THE MIDDLE AND ONE AT THE REAR. tHE PROBLEM i HAVE IS THAT I KEEP GETTING LEAKS AT THE INTERFACE BETWEEN THE MANIFOLD AND THE HEADER. THE GASKETS I GOT ARE APPROXIMATEY 1/16 INCH THICK AND THIS IS MY SECOND GASKET AND IT STILL LEAKS AT THE INTERFACE. tHE SOUN IS GREAT EXCEPT FOR THE LEAK. iS THERE A THICKER GASKET AVAILABLE? aNY AADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Contact MSA at 800-633-6331 for a gasket specifically for headers.

Also, if the leak is in one of the corners of a port, you may have an alignment problem that a thicker gasket will have a hard time fixing. I had to lift my header from the back end before tightening the flange nuts to solve a leak.

Thanks for the reply. I sent for a new gasket from courtesy parts in Texas. I think I have the same problem you had. The muffler tech has the back end too tight and the interface at the header is not parallel. When I get the new gasket I will have him try to tighten it up before he sets the rear end supports. He may have to bend the header pipe to get it aligned right.

I wpuld have fixed it myself but at 74 years old I am avoiding going under the car.

Thanks

Al

I too bought the MSA 6:1 header and premium 2 1/2" pipe system and had problems getting things to fit. Got my independant local muffler guy to do the work and add a glass pack to knock the noise down a little - my neighborhood doesn't have much of a sense of humor.

You should call Sal at MSA (x201 if I remember correctly) and work something out. I would have been happiest if it had all bolted up as advertised, but in the end Sal made it right.

Same here. Sal made it right. I am going to add the glasspack Friday to knock down the resonance some.

i'm definitely going to be buying the msa twice pipes next week ^_^

anyone heard of Richard's Performance Muffler in Vista, Ca? I had the exhaust on my supra done at the local Midas and they did a good job of modifying it to fit but it sounds like this setup is a litttttle more complex than the average Blitz cat-back. Any input would be appreciated :P

I'm one of the very few people running the MSA 2x pipes setup on a 2+2. I had to have a foot long section welded in to make it fit the longer chassis, but I am happy with the way it mounts up. It does hang a bit low, especially on my car, which is lowered with Tokico springs and running a shorter-than-stock wheel/tire combo. Speed bumps are a real hazard for me, and I occasionally even scrape a tad on more pronounced hi-speed highway dips.

Be warned, this setup is LOUD. Almost V8-ish at idle, and the resonances are a bit strong in the 2-3K range, but there is nothing like the scream when you're WOT and pulling through 6K. Truly an intoxicating sound! The backfires and burbling when you close down the throttle is a plus in my book too.

I would be remiss if I failed to mention that it can be tiresome over long drives, especially since the car is turning over 4K on the Interstates (no OD and 3.545). But it suits my driving habits well. It sure does wake me the hell up on the drive to the office!

I should post a sound clip, I'll see if I can put one together over the weekend.

well, loud is what i want ^_^ and i figure if it comes to the point that i REALLY want to do something about it, i could always just add a couple more glasspacks and that should quiet it down. but from what i've heard on some videos, this system sounds downright sick!!! what till they see my stock looking Z come roaring past them :P

Powergains .... 7 out of 10(felt a good power gain not as much as expected)

NOTE : This is the Twice Pipes on my 280Z ... the install and fit and power will be different for a 240Z without a doubt.. since the setup was designed for a 240Z not a 280z

Are you running headers with this setup? I looked at an earlier photo and it seemed that you're only running the stock exhaust manifold.

If so, why did you leave it on without replacing them with headers? Cost?

Could that be the reason why you didn't get the power improvements you were expecting?

Why did you spend the money on a system that you felt wasn't designed for your car or engine size? Did you not consider just going to a good exhaust shop and asking them to build you an exhaust system you should have got in the first place?

Sorry man, I don't want to sound like a PITA but I'm not convinced your convinced that you got what you paid for! So how would you sum up your experience and what would have done differently if you could have started over?

Hey guys. Jus got the twice pipes installed yesterday. let me tell you...horrible horrible fit. the head pipe and the y-pipe were great but everything from that back didn't line up and was at an angle. of course this is AFTER the guy removed my stock system so he was either going to charge me 150 to put my stock exhaust BACK on or another 100 to modify the kit and make it work. he basically made his own bends from his straight pipes and connected them to the glasspacks. took him around 3 hours

BUT after that, i got to fire it up for the first time. OH MY GOSH!!! what a sound!! even the mechanic was greatly surprised haha. it does resonate from 2-3k but nothing that really bothers me. and once you get up to 4k and above it's jus pure heaven :classic:

so in my mind...if i can get the extra 100 back from msa it's a good deal...if not...i'm greatly disappointed that they won't stand behind their product. so be warned...you may have troubles with this system. i even called ahead and asked if there was any problems i should be aware of but of course they said no. anywho, i'll post a video when i get a hold of a camra :D

I noticed that at higher RPM's, it doesn't really sound ferrari like .... like evryone says.. but is loud, and kinda has "farts" which i hope will go away after the fiberglass burns out a bit.

BTW also when I drive it hard... and let up off the gas quickly... you can kinda hear popping or gurgling... almost like a small backfire...

am I running to rich?

Unfortunately you can't achieve that true, vintage, ferrari-like sound with a turbo.

Happens best when using triple Mikunis or Webers.

In my former 2.4L set-up I ran DCOE40's, MSA 6into1 header, and twice pipes. (fitting problems too)

I currently have a 2.8L, stock SU's (running rich) MSA 6into2 header and 2.5" custom system with a Borla XR-1 muffler. (tucked nicely)

If I can just figure out how to get the mini DVD posted.:stupid:
