AChev Posted August 17, 2004 Share #1 Posted August 17, 2004 I have been looking to purchase a Z that apparently has 12,000 miles on it. The man that was willing to sell it to me showed me the title and when he recieved it, the car had only had 11,000 or so miles on it, so he has not put much mileage on it. Although I know it is very possibly for the car to have 112,000 or <. Does anybody have any tips for me to help me find out wether that is the true mileage or not. Not the the car runs and starts perfectly. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lotThis guy was just a fool , I ended up buying a nice 240 anyways from another guy. Thanks anyways
MikeW Posted August 17, 2004 Share #2 Posted August 17, 2004 One simple-minded approach is to look for wear on the clutch, brake, and gas pedals. While these can easily be replaced it's more likely that a car that's really gone 112,000 (or 212,000) miles will show plenty of wear. It would be really unusual for a car to have only 12,000 and I would expect it to be in amazingly good shape.
DatsunZGuy Posted August 17, 2004 Share #3 Posted August 17, 2004 I would look for little details such as if the original stickers in the engine compartment such as on the radiator, air cleaner and front radiator support are still there and what shape they are in. Also, if the original style hose clamps and braided cloth radiator and heater hoses are present. In the interior, I would look to see if it still has all the fabric labels on the seat belts. These items would likely to be gone, seriously deteriorated or replaced on a high-mileage car.
Ed Posted August 18, 2004 Share #4 Posted August 18, 2004 Post some pictures of the engine bay and the interior and let the Z Police give you the answer.
