August 22, 200420 yr comment_92201 Does anybody have a close up picture of the screw area on the trim rings. I had previously posted this in the wrong thread.:stupid:The screws appear to go through the plexiglass. August 22, 200420 yr Author comment_92204 1GENZED.The mounting screws go through both the chrome ring and the plexi. The plexi extends to 1/16" of the outer edge of the chrome ring all the way around. That is to say the outer edge of the plexi is a smooth curve, as the the inner and outer edges of the chrome ring. The ring is about 3/4" wide and completely uniform. I tried to post pictures on thursday, but it appears my card reader has bitten the dust. Follow the link from BlueZ to a decent picture of them-I will try to replace my card reader over the next day or so.Willhttp://www.zparts.com/ads/arrivals/images/DCP_0664rw.jpg Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12910-reproduction-jdm-headlight-covers-with-trim/?&page=5#findComment-92204 Share on other sites
August 24, 200420 yr comment_92530 Hi everyoneI think I have an idea of what they look like now. Thanks for posting the pictures. I am now wondering if they where stamped from a sheet, or a solid casting. They look like they where stamped.I would also like to know what the brackets looked like. Thanks Ahmed. August 24, 200420 yr Author comment_92535 Ahmed,Check my gallery, I posted pictures of all of the parts last night. The chrome trim is made up of two stamped pieces welded together(I photographed it from the bottom so the welds were in view. The Plexi was proably molded from a flat sheet. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12910-reproduction-jdm-headlight-covers-with-trim/?&page=5#findComment-92535 Share on other sites
August 24, 200420 yr comment_92536 i am going to be interested as well, however not in the very near future. i still need to get my car running right before i invest in any aesthetics. i thoroughly commend you for your project! thank you very much for making nice (better?) pieces, and making them more affordable!as to the question about the g-nose covers, aren't they a completely different shape? i thought the g nose was completely different than the regular front... August 24, 200420 yr comment_92545 soo...outta curiosity... how is everything working out? Have you found maybe a way to re-produce these beautiful JDM covers available for sale?! Ohh man! August 25, 200420 yr Author comment_92561 I am still exploring the options, but as I said at the beginning of this thread, I don't expect to really get seriously into it untill after the '72 is back on the street and beautiful (December/January). I am exploring manufacturing methods/contractors in the meantime. The plexi is no problem, the trim ring is a little more complicated, and then I have to work on the seals-but they sould be the easiest of all. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12910-reproduction-jdm-headlight-covers-with-trim/?&page=5#findComment-92561 Share on other sites

November 16, 200420 yr comment_102098 I would like a pair too. I was wanting a pair of originals, but when I came to buy them they were getting silly money. So I have a pair from MSA to go on for now. I wanted the chrome look as it would look good on my dark paintwork. Around the $200 I would happily pay and the shipping to me in EnglandRIP260Z Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12910-reproduction-jdm-headlight-covers-with-trim/?&page=5#findComment-102098 Share on other sites

January 15, 200520 yr Author comment_108741 I am having a difficult time finding a supplier for the right alloy(evidently it is rare) of stainless steel for the trim, everyone wants to sell an entire container instead of 10 sheets-the temporary lens molds are being finished so that they can be used to cast permanent molds. The lenses materials should be ready for limited production in the next month, the trim will be held up until I can find materials-I am going to keep looking for stainless, but I am going to explore AL and other alternatives, when the tooling for those pieces comes together, and I have some production samples, I will start working on the seals, and send out a few sets for evaluation-if they come back acceptable, I will contact the members on the list for actual orders. Hopefully a couple in more months-that sounds like a long time, but so far I have about $8k (when the permanent lens molds are done)and more time than I will admit to in prototyping and several sets of inferior test materials. I will update at the milestones.WIll Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12910-reproduction-jdm-headlight-covers-with-trim/?&page=5#findComment-108741 Share on other sites
January 15, 200520 yr comment_108742 Take your time and thanks for all of the effort. I'm really looking forward to seeing and buying the finished product. Are the projected cost estimates holding steady?
