Uh, I don't think he has any any more... I bought these from the owner who asked Eric to take them on consignment.

BTW, The kit will come witha seal to close the back of the scoop to the headlight-blocking all of the trash and moisture from getting in-hopefully.

When I installed mine on my car, I also noted the lack of a seal between the headlight mounting panel and the sugar scoop back.

Since I also did NOT want the debris coming up into the scoop area, I fashioned my own seal around the scoop to fit over the headlight bulb.

Finding a piece of flat rubber with enough stiffness to not flop over, yet soft enough to cushion was a bit of a challenge. Luckily a neighbor friend of mine had some "squeegee" rubber from a window cleaning tool that he had replaced. That proved to be exactly what I needed.

Now, there are a couple limitations that you'll have to consider.

The space that needs to be sealed is about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch if I recall properly. Additionally, at the top of the scoop, from behind, there is only about 1/2" or so of space before the sheet metal starts curving back towards the fender of the car (the "eyebrow" of the scoop).

I had looked at using closed cell foam, or some other material, but it would have been a mess.

When I applied the flat piece of rubber, I used weatherstrip adhesive, just on the outside of the "tube" part of the scoop as seen from behind. Carefully placing the rubber so that it protruded about 1/16 to 1/8 beyond the plane of the back of the scoop. This was so I could control the amount of compression on the rubber so as not to distort it. Once I had finally placed it properly, I then took several of the large zip ties and snugged them around the rubber to grip and hold it there in case the adhesive dried out or peeled.

Now this was the way I fixed mine, but if you can come up with a better seal than that, I'm all for it.

One note, I used the black rubber because I knew that it would not discolor as obviously as other materials, and since the very back edge of the scoop does allow you to see the opening, or gasket, that discoloration was important to me.

What I meant to say is I believe that the pair Eric had (which were on consignment)are now living with me! Here are the emails he and I exchanged before the owner offered them for sale himself, and I bought them-for less than the highest reported bid, including shipping. I did not know until after I agreed to buy them that they were the same ones-I am not sure why they are still listed, unless the seller didn't tell eric they were gone, or I was fed a line by the seller. Regardless, I have a pair of NOS Headlight covers, and the boxes that are in the link above.

Will

Dear Zparts.com

I am interested in your NOS OEM 240Z headlight covers.

Will $550 buy them including shipping?

William,

At present, there are 4 Z car owners in 4 different countries trying to out bid each other on the covers. Highest offer so far is $750. + shipping. However, the consignment seller just told me yesterday that he saw a specialty Z car website based out of Japan that has a new set for sale at $1000. so he wants to wait a bit longer before accepting highest bid on set that he has consigned for sale at ZPARTS.COM.

Eric,

Thank you for the reply. It was, and is, not my intention to be insulting. However, your blurb is not in your designated consignment area or labeled as a consignment, and is clearly marked $600 with serious offers considered. My intention was to conform to what I understood to be your conveyance. I do appologize.

William

No apology expected nor offense taken. When covers were first consigned with me for sale, I had no idea that these were so terribly collectable nor that buyers would be inclined to want to bid up from the original $600. However, my obligation to the seller of the covers is to cash him out at the highest amount possible.

Good point about them not being advertised as being "consigned parts" for sale. I may move the ad over to the "Consigned For Sale" parts section due to your observation. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

Sorry I was not able to assist you with your interest. Perhaps I can help you with some other parts needs in the future.

I know that no one is damming Eric for the priceing. At their current rarity, $600.00 is below fair market value. It's just above their value to me.

I agree and $600 is more than I'd want to pay myself. Since Will apparently bought that particular pair I'd say that fair market value is whatever he paid. If the main reason he bought them was to be able to reproduce them and sell a bunch then that means they're probably worth more to him that someone else to just wants to use them. That might explain why they didn't sell at $600 for a long time.

Enrique, you did pretty much what I envisioned, but to allow for clearance variation between cars, I will probably make it so that the actual headlight bucket holds the seal, and the back of the sugar scoop contacts it-it will probably be in two pieces, and a little more to instal, but do it once, and that is all!.

I am interested in a pair as well. :)

I was just wondering what the mounting setup is on the originals, does the screw only go thru the plexi, or does the trim ring flare out where the hole is.

Does anybody have a close up picture of the screw area on the trim rings.
