Help! cleaning fuel lines.

Hey guys, so today, i was under my car, trying to find my problem. I now 100% think that the fuel line has gunk in it, i ran a hose directly from my fuel pump to a catch, cranked it and thanks god, the fuel pump is in perfect working order. I reconnected it, and disconnected the line under the filter, ran it into a catch, cranked it, and nothing happened. So, i put a hand pump where the pump goes to the front of the car, then left the tube under the filter open, and pumped, nothing came out, not even air. So, what do you guys think i should do?

Either replace it with another, make a new one, or try and clear the blockage in the one you have. Also inspect the tube for a kink. Maybe you hit a rock or something that flatened the tube?

To clear it, disconnect both ends and try reverse pressure with some compressed air. Or run a wire through the tube.

could also be that your gastank is gunked up. If the "line" is gunked up, that shiat came from somewhere.................and that is usually the tank. The line ain't connected to anything else!

I'd pull it ALL out and inspect everything.

Would a high pressure jet of water be ok? any concerns?

When I bought my 78 in 1997 it had been sitting for four years. The gas tank was toast and had to be replaced. All of the symtoms you describe seem to point in that same direction. My car would start and more or less idle but when you gave it gas it died. Had your car been sitting long when you purchased it?

Water would probably work, but would contaminate the lines. Then you have to dry them out before going back to gasoline.

Water causes rust. High pressure AIR is what you should use, unless your object is to :

a) contaminate the rest of the fuel system

complete the rusting up of the lines

I put paint thinner through mine with a syringe. As it is clear fluid you can easily see what rust and crap is coming out. Any thinner residue in the fuel lines will evaporate afterwards.

A bad blockage will probably need a high pressure air hose to clear it out. Even that might not work if you have solidified fuel 'varnish' in the fuel lines/tank feed lines.

what should i use to pump high pressure air through the lines? and, my car has been sitting in a field for god knows how long, but it doesent look like any problems with the tank, i put the hose from my pump into a catch pan and turned the car to ON, and clean fuel jetted out, when i cranked it, lots of clean fuel came out, but who knows, ill check to make sure.

Air compressor with good size tank. Rubber nippled air gun to seal tight to the line. Or mobile air bubble but you'll have to have a compressor to refill it.
