Posted August 20, 200420 yr comment_92007 Hello,I got the Polyeurethane rear bushings installed a couple weeks ago. Previous rubbers were pretty much gone, and I was told this was a better way to go than rubber ones. My '72 240Z is an every-day driver and for the past two weeks my Z squeeks on every single bump in the road. Is this normal or is it just my Z that does that ? Will it ever go away ? Is there a way to maybe lube them up a bit ?Or was my choice of bushings wrong and it's time to save up for the rubber ones ?Being that we pretty much sit on the rear bushings the constant noise gets a little annoying...All things aside, I never got so much attention on local parking lots; when passing over a speed bump everyone turns around to see what the hell that sound was...Thank you for any replys.-slav. August 20, 200420 yr comment_92009 Did you apply silicone grease to the bushings when you installed them? The instructions that came with my bushings specified that they be coated with silicone grease wherever they contacted metal in order to avoid squeaks. August 20, 200420 yr Author comment_92010 I had a neighborhood shop install these for me. Gave them the box of bushings as they arrived from MotorsportAuto. Since they squeek so much my guess is that there is nothing there. I'll look under tonite... Would there be anyway to still do it now or would I need to take it all apart again and lubricate from scratch ?PS. Is your ride quiet and squeakless ?? You'll have to remove them to lube them.Chris Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12934-polyeurethane-bushings-to-squeek-or-not-squeek/#findComment-92011 Share on other sites
August 20, 200420 yr comment_92014 My car squeaks a tiny bit in the winter time (temps below 50-55 F.) I probably didn't use enough grease, or maybe forgot a spot or two. Doesn't annoy me enough to bother with at the moment.Like Chris says, you'd have to disassemble to grease every P.U. to metal contact point. August 20, 200420 yr comment_92015 The inner pivots on my front control arms squeak just a little but the friggin exhaust is so loud you hardly hear it except when backing out of the garage. :stupid: Chris Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12934-polyeurethane-bushings-to-squeek-or-not-squeek/#findComment-92015 Share on other sites

August 21, 200420 yr comment_92091 Frank dunno if that will work for a long time but it's a funny idea let us know if it works still in a couple of years . I have no squeaks in my Z but then again my Z is that loud you couldn't hear squeaks anyway. I'd say you need to do as the others say grease them up. August 21, 200420 yr comment_92132 I got the kit, and I'm about to do the install in a week or so....it came with the lube...But when I did the same poly bush install on my CRX a few years ago, I had to burn out all the old bushings, and while the metal areas was still very hot, I slide the poly's in and I guess the metel was still hot enough that even without grease they slid right in and they formed right to the areas where the old bushings were like glued in....I hever had a squeek from that car...and other people with the same car uses the lube, and they always complain about the noise....I wonder if the Z's could work the same way? August 21, 200420 yr Author comment_92135 just came back from the shop that installed the bushings, they said that if there was supposed to be lube in there they should have provided it with the bushings. mine came without. all this just confirming that mine are running DRY... at least that's one less shop i'll ever go to. they told me to spray on some WD40, no words can express what i wanted to tell the shmuck that told me that. so i guess i need to buy some of the silicone grease and either take it all apart myself or have someone put that stuff on. some of you say that you can't here anything over the noise of your car anyway; that's not really the point as i can just play the radio louder and the noise will be gone, too. it's just annoying that's all.edit: any suggestions for the silicone grease or just anything will do ??
