i need a 240z or a 260z or a 280z

hi guys.

right now i am 16, a full year away from getting my liscence in New Jersey. but i have been into cars forever, and currently hold a position at Walter's Auto Body. Anyway. i am looking for a 1972-1977 240z, 260z, or 280z for my first car. Now bear with me as i don't know much about changes from year to year, but know the basics about them. I have always loved the body style and the fact that almost any engine can fit into the frame easily just makes me salivate more. However, my mom is very strict about money. She will not let me get a POS, or a piece of ....crap. as she calls it. So this would mean it would have to run very well, and almost no bodyrot or rust on the body. The interior would have to be clean as well. With all of this i think she forgets the fact that i work in a body shop sometimes, but thats what moms are for. Anyways, i was wondering how much would a Z that fit the specifications above run? And is the New Jersey/ Metro area Z-defficient? I can barely find any on autotrader.com and hemmings. Thanks for your help.,

-260z or 280z 2 seater slightly cheaper $5000 plus

-260z or 280z 2+2, way cheaper nice one for $2000,

mind you these are prices ive seem in New Zealand, but the pricing difference are similar in USA as well i think.

-unless you buy a restored one, something is always going to go wrong with these cars, sometimes at once or bit by bit, its just their nature,

The good news is you have a year to look. They pop up once in a while on this site. Surfing this site you will learn a lot about the Z. Look through the gallery and you can drool like the rest of us. Save your penny's cause here's the bad news.... Plan to spend close to 5,000 for something decent. Anything less and Mom won't be happy. Welcome by the way.

I currently live in NWestern NJ and would be happy to keep my eyes open locally for a car for you and would even be willing to help you look one over. However, it appears you're going to be looking for something that requires little major work....which is really going to drive the price up into the 3500 - 6500 price range...for a clean east coast car. You can certainly obtain the same quality car from the midwest, and west coast however you will have to factor shipping into it.

Sadly as it is, east coast cars tend to be quite the rustbuckets. I'd say come pluck from my herd of 7, however you're not quite looking for a project car =)

actually there are several quite reputable business who ship cars...the bigger thing to coordinate is either getting out there to view the car yourself, or find a club member near the vehicle you would like to purchase to inspect it. In finding a shipper, you def want one that is licensed and insured for any such instances of damage during shipping. I can dig out some of the names of I know of that people have used and I;m sure some of the other members know of reputable businesses specializing in auto shipping. I actually have a number for a guy selling a 76 280 here in jersey..I haven;t looked at the car or spoken to the guy yet however the vehicle is listed as "needing body work".. that could mean a host of things though.

Well, thanks again. i have always had this perception that shipping costed most of the times, more than the car being bought., or close to it. As for the 280z, let me ask my mom if she would be willing to take a look at it, then i will contact you for the Z's information about locations and stuff. thanks.
