Posted August 23, 200420 yr comment_92331 My 72 240 with 180 diff and 3.36 ratio burn rubber on both 215 summimotos on any surface every time I try it. I can also position one wheel in the gravel and the other on pavement and they both "peel out".I did the driveshaft revolution test and I have the 3.36 stock rear end. These are the tests I did this weekend to check.1. In Gear:- I turn one wheel and the other turns the opposite direction- I hold one wheel and turn the other and it will not turn2. Out of gear.- I hold either wheel and I can turn the other freely- I turn the driveshaft and most of the time only one wheel turns sometimes both but sometimes neither.- I turn the driveshaft and hold one wheel it forces the other to turnAfter reading all the post's I wonder why a LSD in a 3.36 since everyone goes for the 3.7 3.9 4.11 so I wonder what I have? August 23, 200420 yr comment_92342 Sorry to poop your bubble here....but based on your explaination (i.e., turn one wheel and the other rotates the other direction) you have the standard open differential. August 23, 200420 yr comment_92345 If it was lsd Out of gear: I hold one wheel, and the other will not turn freely (unless the clutches have worn out completely). I think thats how it goes. If it was lsd, and you jack the back up and turn the tailshaft, both wheels will move in the same direction. If only one wheel moves, its not LSD. Sometimes neither??? are you on LSD???? August 23, 200420 yr Author comment_92346 I didn't think it was but it will leave 2 nice strips of rubber every time I want to. From reading all the posts everyone without LSD spins one tire and the other just sits there getting no where so thought I might have something unique. Didnt think LSD was even around anymore..Timothy Leary is dead isnt he!? :nervous: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12966-i-must-have-an-lsd/#findComment-92346 Share on other sites
August 29, 200420 yr comment_93127 Z peg leg differentials grip pretty well without limited slip, so it's not surprising you left 2 strips. However, you have an open differential, otherwise both wheels would spin in hte same direction when you turn one wheel in neutral. August 29, 200420 yr comment_93145 The good doctor died in 1996 but his legend lives on. I was bored yesterday so I did a little test. (No LSD involved other than the differential ) I jacked up my 810 (open diff) and tested it and it responded just like yours, although I couldn't get it to do the 'somtimes niether.' I then jacked up my wife's J30 (viscous limited slip R200) and both wheels spin in the same direction when you turn either one. August 30, 200420 yr comment_93201 I tested mine on the weekend, because I'm having "vibration" problems from the rear end... and a bit of a "hot" smell after driving for 15 mins or so (mind you, I've also just had my exhaust done!)...1. Out of gear:a. turning one wheel does not necessarily make the other wheel move much, but sometimes it spins in the opposite direction. b. turning the driveshaft makes one or other wheel spin (but it varies!).2. In gear, engine running, clutch engaged:Wheels are very difficult to get spinning when I let the clutch out! I'm particularly worried about this?? (or perhaps "relieved" because it might be the cause of the vibrations?).3. In both cases:There is quite a bit of resistance! Like, it will spin freely for 1/3 or 1/2 the revolution (of the wheels), but the rest is pretty hard going, like there's some sort of friction impeding my progress?? :paranoid: Do you guys get that too? I'm a bit worried that the resistance when I let the clutch out might mean my diff is  ???Cheers Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12966-i-must-have-an-lsd/#findComment-93201 Share on other sites
August 30, 200420 yr comment_93205 just so you guys know, the wheel turn test is NOT an accurate test if the spider gear is shot, or the previous owner welded up the differential. True test is to pull off the diff. cover and look inside Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12966-i-must-have-an-lsd/#findComment-93205 Share on other sites
