Linkage Problems

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of removing the N33 intake and webers on my 1973 z and installing SU's from a 1972. I have the complete set up (E88 intake - carbs - and linkage) from the 1972. My problem is that the rod that the bell crank is mounted on is shorter than the 1972 bell crank. The 1973 uses a shorter profile bell crank. It appears that the rod is welded into the firewall bracket and the bracket is spot welded to the firewall.

I am hoping that one of the members has done this mod and has found a solution. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

In taking a closer look at the linkage bracket on my firewall, the pin that is welded in the bracket has not been cut and actually has a groove for the retaining clip. I've taken pictures of both the pin and the two bell cranks (believe bell crank is the correct term?) showing the difference in profile height.

In watching the Ztherapy "SU" video, some mention was made to the bell crank being different heights - but they did not go into any detail.

I'm assuming that as popular a mod as this is....someone must have run into this problem before. I've read the archives until I'm crossed eyed...but havent found any mention of this problem.

Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Sorry this isn't the type of post that generates excitement or interest. But until I get this figured out - my Z will have a cleaned up intake - rebuilt carbs - and lots of sitting still and being silent. :disappoin

hhm have you go to ztherapys website, my 72 appears to be what you show as a 73 , the shorter of the two firewall linkage. I know depending on the type of carbs used either 3 or 4 screw and manifold makes the diffrence with the center linkage, my brothers 74 has n36 manifolds as well as mine but he has 4 screw carbs and we took my center linkage off to test fit his and it was a no go because mine are 3 screw , I would happen to take pics of mine and his if that would help any at all. You are right there are lots of people who have done exactly what you are. Let me know but I would also look through the gallery and check out motor pics
