Posted August 24, 200420 yr comment_92414 I am redoing the brakelines on my 240z and came across one line that seems to be for fuel but dont know for sure. Its much thicker than the rest, it comes out of the tranny tunnel and runs on the driverside all the way up towards the ignition coil. ould be for smog but not to sure. Can someone help me with this line?ThanksSaro Fagerian Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12982-where-does-this-line-go/ Share on other sites
August 24, 200420 yr comment_92415 It supposed to be connected to the Flow Guide Valve which "was" mounted below the coil. It is part of the emissions sytem to allow venting of fumes from the gas tank into the engine instead of being vented to the atmosphere. August 24, 200420 yr Author comment_92416 Thanks for the quick reply. All of my emission parts have been removed and my question is can I eliminate it or somehow cut it right under the tranny tunnel? The reason why Im saying this is because all my lines are new and thats the only one that is old and looks worn out. So if all my emissions are removed is it possible for me to remove this line as well and cap it?ThanksSaro Fagerian Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12982-where-does-this-line-go/#findComment-92416 Share on other sites
August 24, 200420 yr comment_92417 I would never remove this line. It is meant to allow your fuel system to vent pressure build up. It does no harm to you, the car, or the engine. Without a vent you will experience problems related to pressure build up in the fuel system. Cutting it in the tunnel will simply allow moisture (rain, water, mud and crap to either enter the fuel system, or plug the line and cause pressure build up. If you are worried about it's appearance...........paint it, or have it replated. There have been several previous discussions about this system. Try doing a search on "Flow Guide Valve" and you can learn more about this system. August 24, 200420 yr Author comment_92419 So now that I have no emission stuff where will the Flow Guide Valve connect to after it is attached to that line? It looks like ill have to leave it mounted but not attached to where ever it is ment to go. I guess I should ask where do the double outlets on the Flow Guide Valve connect to? August 24, 200420 yr comment_92420 This is all covered in the previous discussions. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12982-where-does-this-line-go/#findComment-92420 Share on other sites
August 24, 200420 yr comment_92421 one line is connected to the engine so that fuel vapor is not vented to the outside of a sealed systime. the valve allows fresh air to enter he fuel tank so as the fuel is drawn from the tank it is replaced with air . in the heat It will resist pressure to a point and then it will releave it . Other wise you will be pulling a vacume. vent to the aircleaner then the vapor will be burned with the incoming air. When it is connected properly to the engine the PVC draws the fumes in this way and burns it. August 24, 200420 yr Author comment_92428 Do you have a pic of where it is attached to on the engine? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12982-where-does-this-line-go/#findComment-92428 Share on other sites
August 24, 200420 yr comment_92450 Saro,One nipple connects to the breather tube on the block, and the other to the back of the air cleaner. I don't think it matters which one is which. Get'er done! Get'er done!I believe that it does matter. The ports on the Flow Guide Valve are marked as to which should go where.
