SeaFoam treatment... VIDEO and instructions! Lots of smoke...

Yeah, it's on the can, but on the first time you do it, when you see the thick smoke coming out you suddenly start wondering what's going on:eek:!! :paranoid: !!

I would add that you probably shouldn't use the brake vacuum port because it probably doesn't get all 6 cylinders in an L6, onlt the back few. Instead, use the vacuum port just behind (OK) or in frontof( better) the trottle body valve, to geththe valve itself and all 6 cylinders.

I've been using Seafoam in my 2003 GMC pickup for 2-3 years now...purrs like a kitten!!!. About every six months I pour in a can right after I fill up the gas tank. Have not noticed any smoke while driving...etc...etc. Works real good in the lawnmower as well....now we're talking some SMOKE......

One way to de-carb your pistons is to remove the rings and place the piston upside down in a tub of water. Just cover the ring lands with water. Let them sit in the water for 24 hours and the carbination will wipe right off! I used to wire brush them on my grinder but it would damage the ring lands. An oldtimer taught me the water trick many years ago.

Actually a little bit of both....I spray 2-3 short bursts of Seafoam into the gas tank about once a month. (About 4-5 seconds each time) Every so often I'll take the air breather off and spray into the carb. Spray a little bit....big cloud of smoke, Spray a little bit....big cloud of smoke. May want to stay upwind of the smoke if you can (Cough...Cough) Seems to help out quite a bit...usually just have to prime and pull the rope and it starts right up....

I used the SeaFoam through the vacuum tap for the heater. I should probably have used the vacuum port by the throttle-body. I got some thick drak-gray smoke at first. I thought somebody driving by might stop to say "Hey your muffler is smoking!" :rolleyes: and the same on the freeway when I drove it for about 20 miles to get it to quit smoking.

I plan on a few more treatments. Should it smoke like that even with a 'clean' engine?

I'll probably give a bottle or two for my brother's old tractor & my sister's riding mower.

I put another can of Seafoam through the engine today- the WHOLE can. I used the intake port (ahead of the throttle boddy) for the valve cover hose this time to see if I could clean up the throttle plate (I heard about using 'throttle body spray' on TV.) It smoke a little while the Seafoam was goin in, but the real surprise was after I gave t 5- minute rest, then off to the highway. It smoked like mad- even inside the car. I suppose the open windows allowed the exhaust to circulate back in, but eventually it was cleaned out ( after about 8 miles.)

Again this surpised me even more than the last time I tried Seafoam because it smoke twice as thick. So now I'm wondering why I got some smoke the last time I used Seafoam, and a lot more thistime? Dose that mean I'm starting to get get the carbon off finally?

Maybe I should get another can after a tankfull (about 300 miles?)

Yeah, whenever you use something like Sea Foam through a vac. line, it's going to smoke like crazy. Thats normal. the one treatment alone I'm sure did it's job. Too many treatments is not good either. Sea Foam is a really good, strong product and should really only have to be used through a vac. line once & a great while or barely at all if you drive your car enough on the highways and keep it cleared out.

Or maybe the Seafoam itself is causing the smoking at not the removal of carbon. Smoke and mirrors if you ask me.

It could be that. The ingredients are "petroleum distillates" which can include oil types, and a sniff didn't smell like any solvent I know, so maybe all I did was to coat the inside of the engine with some oily stuff, then let it soak in, and boil & burn it off.

OH- the engine did syall a few times while feeding the Seafoam in..

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but i wanted to know some more up to date info...is this stuff worth getting? I just bought a used engine to drop in my z and was thinking of using this treatment...I was also told not to use it on a used engine because it could cause my engine to start leaking from gaskets...does this sound right to you? Anybody have any problems after using this treatment?
