Posted August 24, 200420 yr comment_92526 OK, a few in another thread wanted to discuss these options, but no one actually started a new thread. So here goes. Attached is a picture scanned by Alan T (I lightened it a tad) that lists the home-market options for the S30 range from 1970 (correct me if I'm wrong!). Whilst some seem pretty obvious, it is the not-so-obvious which are intriguing. I'm trying to work out how best to discuss... if you look closely next to the pictures, they are numbered. If we can use the numbers given to point to each that's probably the best way. To begin: 2. The home-market S30's had a clock as an option, yes? This may come as a surprise to some - I know it did when I heard it first. Amazing how the "feature list" of cars has come so far in the last 30 years. I'd like to know what 3, 4, 9 and 14 are! I thought the A/C was not available on early S30's... not sure where I got that from though. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12989-home-market-s30-factory-options/ Share on other sites
August 24, 200420 yr comment_92529 Is 7 a vinyl top? Also, the deck spoiler, #12 on the list, that they show has the two bumps on it. I have seen ones before like that, but there are also ones that don't have the bumps either. Is the deck spoiler with the bumps the earlier version of the spoilers? Were the bumps for style or function? I really like this thread Lachlan. I am sure Enrique will too. I would love to learn as much as I can about these parts. I am sure it is a huge list, and I am sure the Datsun Competition list is even larger. I will post pictures of my Datsun Competition shift knob when I can. Would this be the right place to post it? Take care and keep these threads going. It is invaluble to the people that are interested. I am sure more will get interested as they see it. Ben p.s. I wish I had a lot of these options on my car, but I am going to pass on the vinyl top if that is what it is. August 24, 200420 yr comment_92541 OK, a few in another thread wanted to discuss these options, but no one actually started a new thread. So here goes. Alfadog,Enrique was going to start the thread when I had sent him some better scans of the photos.I was also going to translate the captions and give more details as to what the descriptions referred to, and what models they applied to.Since he pledged his idea to start the thread less than 24 hours ago, I hardly think you have given it enough of a chance to claim that "nobody started the thread". I haven't even had a chance to dig out the brochure and re-scan it yet.Now its gone off half cocked. What's the point of guessing games when I can tell you exactly what everything is and what it applies to, and with much better photos as reference?I've got the late 1971 brochure too, which has different options and different pictures. I was going to scan that for comparisons. August 24, 200420 yr comment_92543 I think it is important to understand the relevance of the options to the different models available in 1970. We must keep in mind that the car we know as the 240-Z was only one model of the S30 type produced by Nissan. In the home market, there was the standard S30, the stripped down, bare bones S30-S, and that racey PS30 (432). I personally believe that the HLS30 and the HS30 can be most closely tied to the standard S30 model which we would call the luxury version. Confusing? Some options appear to be standard features of some models and optional on others. Some of these options are listed in the North American parts catalogs and were available, however very few knew about this and the items are rather rare in this country.1. 8-track / AM with auto arial 27350-E4126 with speakers 29240-E4125 and E42252. Stop watch clock / rally clock 27385-E4100 with oscillator 27395-E41003. Seat recliners4. I think this is a parking light switch that allows one side of the parking lights to be lit when parked on the side of the road.5. Fog lamps. There is a very long thread on this option in the archives6. Dual exhaust tips.7. Vinyl top covering. Very period correct and luxurious.8. Side stripe kit. Kats has one.9. I wonder if this has to do with the headlight covers?10. Bumper guards. Home market cars did not have bumper guards.11. Rear window demister. The first HLS30s came with clear glass 90301- E410012. The rear spoiler has three reference numbers - 98100-E4600, E4601, and N330013. Foot rest 75500-E410014. Walnut shift knobI can't read any of the text from the scan. I pulled all of these part numbers from my North American parts catalogs - listed as optional. Also, generally speaking, the E4100 subscript usually designates the first issue, 1969 and on.Hope this helps. August 25, 200420 yr Author comment_92556 Alfadog,Enrique was going to start the thread when I had sent him some better scans of the photos.Sorry, when Enrique said "I would like to post each one of the accessories on it's own post so that everyone can discuss them" I understood it as he was going to post each of them in that topic. I thought it would be better suited to a new topic rather than the "Footrest?" one. It's hard to get an idea about time on these forums... I didn't even notice it was less than 24 hours ago that the 3-page long thread was just brimming over 1 page!Anyway, sorry for starting this. Mike can delete it and let Enrique start one with a clearer scan, or we can "play-on" from here... whatever works. August 25, 200420 yr comment_92567 Anyway, sorry for starting this. Mike can delete it and let Enrique start one with a clearer scan, or we can "play-on" from here... whatever works. Not trying to "hijack" a thread that I would have started..... Don't delete it! Let's "play-on".... I also was thinking of a "separate" post in order to not piggy-back on the otther post. As to waiting for the larger picture, I was hoping to enlarge each of the "sections" of the photo to give greater detail and with Alan's translation a complete understanding of the items. That it has started....GREAT! Now with Alan's translation we can really rock. August 25, 200420 yr comment_92585 I've re-scanned the brochure and broken it down into sections. Hopefully this will show more detail from the photos, but the originals are actually TINY. Everybody needs to bear in mind that the pictured options are not the only options. There's a longer list of optional equipment next to the photos in the brochure, and its laid out in a way that shows what is available on each of the three basic models concerned. These three basic models are: *Fairlady Z ( S30-S ) - the 'basic' no-frills model. *Fairlady Z-L ( S30 ) - the 'luxury' model. *Fairlady Z432 ( PS30 ) - the S20 twin cam engined model. The numbered photos translate as follows: 1. Car Stereo. 2. Clock with Stop Watch. 3. Reclining Seat Device. 4. Passing Light. 5. Fog Lamps. 6. Dual Exhaust. ( thats the full twin-pipe system ) 7. Leather Top. ( actually vinyl ) 8. Racing Stripe. 9. Rubber Bumper. 10. Over Rider. 11. Rear Glass with Electric Heater. 12. Air Spoiler. 13. Footrest ( Assistant ). 14. FM Pack. Here are the photos. I'm trying to attach the largest reasonable size possible: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/12989-home-market-s30-factory-options/#findComment-92585 Share on other sites
August 25, 200420 yr comment_92589 I have scanned some of the rest of that page of the brochure, to help clarify the unpictured options and the standard equipment on the three model types concerned. Grey dot = OPTION Grey square = STANDARD EQUIPMENT Reading down the side of the page, you can see the three models concerned ( Fairlady Z, Fairlady Z-L and Fairlady Z432 in that order ). Read across the columns to see what is Option and what is Standard Equipment. A blank means it is not available on that model. Column headings ( across the top of the page ) for the first image read: *5-speed Transmission. *165HR-14 Tyres. *Air Con Kit. *Leather Handle. ( 'Handle' = steering wheel in the Japanese vernacular ) *Leather Shift Lever Knob. *Car Stereo. *Stop Watch Clock. *Two Hands style Clock. ( the normal clock ) *Reclining Seat Device. *Passing Light. *Fog Lamp. So - for example - reading across the list you can see that the 5-speed Transmission is standard equipment on the Fairlady Z-L and Fairlady Z432, but is an Option on the Fairlady Z. Second example: The Air Con Kit is not available as an Option on the Fairlady Z or Fairlady Z432, but IS available as an Option on the Fairlady Z-L.
