Amco accessories

My car came with a Amco leather knob. It is not in the greatest of shape, but I still have it.

Me too. It was on my roadster. Now it resides in my living room, affixed to an A box shifter. Sort of a Datsun Royal Septer, or maybe a Datsun magick wand. Next time a sick Datsun shows up, I'll wave the wand and make the incantaions - "Matsuo, Uchino, Iizuka"

So do you all think the chrome overrider bars were not factory Nissan parts? My 71 had the extra bar on the front and the rear.

My understanding is that these were dealer-installed options, not from the factory.

I don't know if they were available as an factory option on Z's destined for other countries but those overrider bars were sold by aftermarket companies (most notably AMCO) in my area and at my local Datsun/Nissan dealership, all of these AMCO items were "dealer options" on new Z cars.

I found one of these in the junk yard last year, after taking the console out and bringing it home I noticed that the hinge was on the rear, and it looked like a hinge you put on a house door. :stupid:

Anyone know if these lids were supposed to 'bolt on' to existing factory mounts? Or did everyone have to 'rig' it on? :disappoin

Also, the hinge is placed so it swings at the back, rather than swing on the passenger side as stock lids. Still haven't decided what to do with it... it just lies under the table for now, with a new console stacked on top.

I'll snap some pictures when I get home this evening if anyone is interested. BTW, the console came out of a '76 280Z, if that makes any difference.

Thanks Mike & Carl, my 71 was "loaded" at some time or another. Besides the bumper bars, it had foglights with the built in switch in the console and the wiring appeared to be factory. Makes me wonder if the dealer exchanged the entire front harness when they added those parts. The leads to the lites were INSIDE the harness that fed the headlights and the horns. My 72 and 73 dont have those wires unless they are tied up and hidden somewhere. When I got the car it didnt have the armrest over the console but there were screw holes where something had been mounted.

Wish I still had that car but it succumbed to the rust monster. :dead:

On the 2 out of 3 240Z's that I have owned which had these console lids, two holes needed to be drilled at the rear of the console by the installer. The OEM Nissan replacement console that I bought in 1999 did not have holes in the rear to mount anything.

Yeah, the hinge on the lids that I've had were indeed simple generic hardware store hinges.

What "stock lids" are you refering to? 280Z? I'm not familiar with those consoles.

Thanks Mike, so I would just have to get a switch once I've found the wiring. Do you know where the switch would have been placed on a 240Z with the second design console? I wonder if it would go up in the dash in that unused molded area?

I don't know where the switch should go as I don't think I have an unused molded area. I assume that it would be somewhere around the hazard switch or lighter but I don't really see a spot there.
