I don't remember where I got these pictures. Recognition and thanks to whoever originally took them. I'll bet they are in the site archives.

Chris, that's excellent stuff. Now it's just a matter of finding that fog lamp switch somewhere. You wouldn't happen to have the part number for it would you?

Thanks,

ChrisA

Yeah, the hinge on the lids that I've had were indeed simple generic hardware store hinges.

Not sure what you mean by "the hinge is placed so it swings at the back, rather than swing on the passenger side as stock lids."

What "stock lids" are you refering to? 280Z? I'm not familiar with those consoles.

Hi Carl-

Here's some pics I just took. The new console I got from Chloe (late last year) is on the right and top, respectively, and the old one pulled from a '76 280 in the junkyard is on the left and bottom, respectively.

I just now noticed that the junkyard one didn't even have the slots cut for the side lid mount, it does have the molding impressions in it from the back side, but the plastic has not been cut through.

Thanks for clearing up the mystery of the hinge for me, btw.

Thanks for the 280Z console pics, Wayne

Here are two pics of my spare "late" 240Z style console. Under the Logo plate (which has been removed) there is a "Factory" provided provision for a switch, warning light, or something to be mounted. I don't know what the factory intended for this location, but this is where I have seen fog lamp switches mounted here in the USA.

FWIW, 26th-Z's (Chris') pic of toggle switches on the dash shows the arrangement on an "early" N.A. car when the cigar lighter was still on the console/fusebox cover area. On later N.A. cars, the cigar lighter would have been installed in the upper toggle switch location on the dash by the "factory".

Enrique,

That picture clearly shows that the panel was modified from the original as you'll notice that the center switches have a label added whereas the right switches still show the choke warning symbol. I'd be surprised if that change was made at the factory but I suspect Alan will fill us in. Here's what my panel looks like:

MikeW:

I think Enriques pic shows a OEM JDM arrangement. The center pair of switches was (I believe) used to energize the side markers on one side OR the other of the car when parked at night. Kats or someone has explained (somewhere on the site) that this was required in Japan due to narrow streets or areas with poor lighting IIRC.

Perhaps they were not required to have the seatbelt warning light that the Feds required here in US

Yes, I remember that discussion. Doesn't it seem strange that they'd just leave the choke symbol that's beneath what would have been the choke warning light?

The things you learn from this site amaze me...

I had one of those switches in the dash of the 73, removed it because i thought it wasn't original.

Can't wait to get home and have a look around. FWIW, I don't seem to remember a second hole in the dash, is it possible that there where different dashes?

Actually, that panel IS in Alan's Car. I'll allow him to clear up the mystery, but I would bet that he placed the switches in OEM order, and used that specific panel simply because of the scarcity of the other one.

So, Alan, if I goofed in posting that picture, or in sticking you with ownershuip.....oops! My apologies.

Yes Enrique,

That is indeed the panel in my 1972 240ZG.

However, I think I originally posted it when we were discussing the Japanese-market Parking Lamp system?

The panel in my car is custom - so should NOT be discussed as an example of OEM. Some time in the dark and distant past, the previous Japanese owner had all sorts of accessories on the car and needed a few extra switches. He seems to have decided to get another Parking Lamp switch and site it in the Choke light position right next to the original Parking Lamp switches.

Didn't we go through all this on the original thread? I can't remember. Anyway, don't lets get suckered into a conversation about my panel - as its modified, and is not a good example of OEM placements for Fog Lamp switches ( only Parking Light switches ).

I'm attaching a pic of the underside of the panel just to tie that up. You can see that the second ( custom fitted ) Parking Light switch is unused at present. Actually, you can see why the previous owner thought it would be a handy and neat way of incorporating a couple of extra switches on the panel. It screws on very nicely.

I'm also attaching a pic of the panel from my mid-1970 Fairlady Z-L, so you can see the placement of the Parking Lamp switches and HRW switch on the earlier version of the Home market cars.

Here are some more pics of Fog Lamp switches.

These are being used to switch the huge Koito Spot Lamps on Works 240Z rally cars. The Koito spot lamps on the Works rally cars were actually Koito's aircraft landing lights ( normally situated inside a nacelle on the leading edge of the wing? ) I am told.

Part numbers for the Fog Lamp Switches were:

25370-E4100 COMB-SWITCH FOG LAMP ( OPT ) - up to 08-71

superseded by:

25370-E8700 COMB-SWITCH FOG LAMP ( OPT ) - from 09-71.

Thanks Alan, that clears that up.

So we are still looking for someone with the "Series II" console with an OEM Fog Lamp Switch installed by either the Factory or a Dealer.

Otherwise, the location below the "Z" Plate is not only cut in the dimension it would require, but it is congruent with the established location in the "Series I" console.

I'm going to have to see about getting those Part numbers checked for availability and price.
