There's lots of room here

This summer my wife and I took our big Dodge camper van out on a vacation camp some 100 miles from home.

One morning at 4am we were awakened by sounds from the engine compartment.

Two nights of battles with a large grey sqirrel ensued.

It stymied all efforts of eviction from under the van.

Even the family dog could not scare it away, ir stop it's labors to build a nest on the intake manifold.

We left camping for home, imagining the critter must have bailed out of the van when we took to the road.

At the time, I noticed that this was a grey squirrel, not native to the woods in which we camped, but definitely the type we see back in the city.

A week later I had some brake work done on my 79 ZX.

When I went to pick up the car, my mechanic asked if I had squirrels in the neighborhood.

Sure enough, there was a nest made of dog fur and steel wool, adorned with a dozen apples piled up in the cavity behind the left headlight!

I'm pretty sure our camping companion moved from the van to the ZX.

Now I'm wondering if he'll make another little house inside the 71 Z in the garage.

I'm still not sure how to deal with the critter, I wonder if he's prone to chewing on wiring or some such habit?

on a much smaller scale, when I removed the right front fender I found mice had packed the whole area that is between the top of the fender and the inner fender with bird seed from the bird feeders. The Z had been parked for a while next to the garage. One thing the seed had gotten wet and was starting to rust the cavity.
