I have a sudden rev limiter?

Howdy all,

Ok, jump in the car, it's warmed up, good response on the throttle and then about 4k the car acts like its got a rev limiter on it, you can hold that beast to the floor and no rev past 4k or so. It acts like it's cross firing.

By the way, this is the '74 260, with the triple mikunis on it, the dizzy is a dual point mallory with new points that are gapped correctly...Fuel pressure is fine.

It really acts like ignition....

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm thinking that has to be it...

I remember that the oil pump was off a tooth and fixed that, but I need to check the rest of it at TDC. Any advice?

I believe it's at 28 degrees advanced at 3k, but I'm not sure you could get it to run that advanced if it was off a tooth?

help!

I swear I'm gonna run it off a cliff...

And yes, I'll take the carbs off first. :stupid:

what ignition coil are you using? the reason i ask is b/c i was going through a similar thing. after doing a little reading on converting to an electronic distributor, it was recommended to use a coil from a 280zx.... the thing is that these coils were meant to be used without the white resistor that 240s (and 260s?) used.... anyway, i bypassed this by unscrewing the green wire and screwing it down to the black wire on the other side... problem fixed!
