September 4, 200420 yr comment_93800 Trogen , dont be too sure about the extent of the damage . Remove all the undercoating it the surrounding area and I bet you will find a lot more. Is this rail shown the rocker under the door or the floor support ? I believe Zed Findings sells what you will need to do the repair. I used his floor and am vary pleased with the quality. September 4, 200420 yr Author comment_93818 I believe it's called the floor support. It has the another run running parallel to it on the driver's side. I think I've seen these for sale, but I forget where. I just don't have the resources (or $$) right now to saw it off and weld a new one on. I'm putting what little money I have into the paint and body rust. September 4, 200420 yr Author comment_93833 Here's some more, now that I've gotten started on it.... Pic 1 shows the underneath center piece. Pic 2 is a close up of the cancer. Pic 3 shows the culprits. Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 This stuff is adding up, little by litte. It's not much, just a lot of little here, little there. I just need 1 BIG rust spot, and that's it. Knock it all out in 1 blow! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13089-rust-treatment/?&page=2#findComment-93833 Share on other sites
September 6, 200420 yr Author comment_94080 Anyone want the old fenders? I'll trash them if not. I'll donate them to the first person who can pick them up. 78 280Z. September 6, 200420 yr comment_94096 Trojan:I feel your pain...Finally got around to removing front suspension, body panels and interior in search of the rust monster. Little here, little there. The best part is when you check the undercoating with something sharp and it just GOES RIGHT THROUGH the firewall, floorpan, wheel well, etc. Talk about "occult disease." Sheesh! That undercoating is the worst part of the deal, and definitely should come off ASAP. I plan on using advice found here where a heat gun, scraper and 6-pack make pretty good business of that crap. Who knows what's under that stuff...I hope it's not that bad for both our cars....Regards,X Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13089-rust-treatment/?&page=2#findComment-94096 Share on other sites
