Posted September 1, 200420 yr comment_93505 Hey guys,I went on to www.hybridz.org looking for info on an RB26DETT conversion. What happened was that i read how to do that, then got curious and read how to do a chev V8 swap. By the time i got through all that it was about 2am, and i had too many ideas running through my head. Now i don't know which one i want! Now i figured the chev V8 parts might be harder to source the rb parts in australia? Anyone got any input to help me decide? Cause i was looking for an australian section on hybridz to ask about availability in australia but yeah, no go there.-Cheers Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13090-hybridzorg-left-me-confused-s/ Share on other sites
September 1, 200420 yr comment_93507 Mickie, If you have local sources for the RB26DETT and not for the SBC, definately go for the RB. I guess it all boils down to cost, because both motors can deliver plenty of HP. In the states, most will go with the SBC due to cost and availability of parts. But hey....an RB26DETT would be way kool, yes??? September 1, 200420 yr comment_93512 I wouldn't have thought SBC parts would be that hard to come by? Maybe have a chat to my mate Jaimen (silver tt soarer), as he has one in his Torrie. I suppose it really depends on a few things: a) Money... SBC is going to be much cheaper to buy and to get installed and running Tech... Do you want dinosaur (effective dinosaur I might add ) technology c) You want a torque monster, or do you want top end power? d) SBC is likely to cost more to run than the RB Personally, I'd go the RB, or if I wanted to go V8, at least a hi-tech V8, eg VH41, VH45, or 1UZ. Actually....the jap V8s aren't that expensive these days so would be worth considering. They'd be a bit harder to get in there though being physically larger engines than the SBC. September 1, 200420 yr comment_93525 What did you do to make them ban you Marc??? Post pictures of your (GORGEOUS and UNMOLESTERED!) car? haha, thanks. actually some idiot found an unmolested 240z stored in a barn for god knows how long and bought it for something like 500 bucks. then he starts ripping out the PERFECT interior and tries to sell it on ebay and then talks about how hes gonna gut the motor and swap it for a v8. he posted all this somwhere in forums. anyways he didnt have any questions, he was just trying to wizz us off. so i signed on hybrid and told them i found a mint 240z with an ls1 and i was gonna chissel out the motor and replace it with an l24. i posted a picture of a real 240z with an ls1 and had a few of them going before the forum was deleted and i was banned. what can i say, summer vacation and nothing better to do Banned from their site? September 2, 200420 yr comment_93546 On the topic, you should remember that in Oz we have been doing exotic engine transplants for a long time and in a lot of variety. My old mate with the RB30ET started his around eight years ago and has now done nearly 40000k, my FJ20ET was started around seven years ago. RB transplants in the US are fairly recent while they have been doing V8's for yonks. There is plenty of info around on Oz transplants but some of it does take some finding. September 2, 200420 yr Author comment_93547 Would there be a major difference in the way the car would feel between the two engines, eg braking, cornering, accel/top speed??Also i'm kinda building this with the annual hill climb event in townsville in mind. Which engine would best suit that sort of event? (Not just straight up a hill though, lotsa tight cornering too) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13090-hybridzorg-left-me-confused-s/#findComment-93547 Share on other sites
September 2, 200420 yr comment_93550 The bitumen sprints here at both the kart track and Mt Stuart are quite tight. Gary (7ONLY) was saying the other day that you want an engine setup with as little lag as possible. By the same token you also want it as light as possible.I'd imagine there's be bugger all weight difference between the Rb26 and the SBC. SBC would give good throttle response, but then again, so will the RB if you keep it up in the revs. If you really want to make it into a circuit car, maybe think about some lighter engines? How about a VQ30DET? All alloy V6, very compact and quite light, 3L, 206kW, more torque than the VG30DETT too. They go for ~$2500.
