September 2, 200420 yr comment_93602 I agree he and his interesting bikes will be missed..........maybe some of the folks that refuse to wear helmets will get a clue from this unfortunate incedent. Come on, what was this guy thinking anyway, he had on a protective suit but no helmet!!! Sorry to say, but the guy was just stupid and paid the price! September 2, 200420 yr comment_93610 Never understood why we must wear our seat belts but bikers can go without a helmet. Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Plus they can run open exhaust and we must have mufflers. That last sentence was a little extreme but still some of those bikes are LOUD as hell.RIP Indian Larry  Vicky Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13096-rip-indian-larry/#findComment-93610 Share on other sites
September 2, 200420 yr comment_93625 Do you guys in the US *have* to wear a seatbelt now? I thought it was still legal not to. Is it legal not to wear a helmet on a bike???? That's ludicrous!(In Australia it is illegal not to wear a seatbelt unless you're reversing, and illegal not to wear a helmet on a bike) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13096-rip-indian-larry/#findComment-93625 Share on other sites
September 2, 200420 yr comment_93627 It varies from state to state. Some states value "rights" over "lives".In California you are required to wear a seatbelt in a moving vehicle. Does not matter if you are driver or passenger. First offense = $80 in my area, 2nd offense = $170 Don't ask me how I know this. Same requirements with helmets and motorcycles in CA. (I don't know the cost for violating this one)Watch out for Motorcycle Officer "Krispy Kreme" in Pleasanton, CA Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13096-rip-indian-larry/#findComment-93627 Share on other sites
September 2, 200420 yr comment_93630 It varies from state to state.Exactly. I've actually seen motorcyclists stop at the border between states just to take of their helmet. I mean, where is the sense in that??? Ohh I get it, it's to tidy up the gene pool!! September 3, 200420 yr comment_93646 Indiana is one of those inconsistant states... It used to be mandatory to wear a helmet on a motorcycle here, until about 20 years ago. Then they repealed that law and replaced it a few years later with a mandatory seat belt law... We are also one of the very few states where you are NOT required to wear a seat belt in a truck. Which makes for some interesting situations, since most SUVs can be plated as either a car or a truck. If you are driving a SUV with a truck plate the police can't give you a ticket for not wearing your seat belt, but someone in an identical SUV that has a "car" plate on the back can be ticketed. I actually know people who will only drive trucks because they don't like seat belts. I must be in the minority however, because while I have never driven a car (or a truck..) without a seat belt holding me in place, I still think that my personal choices about my health and safety are none of the state's business. :rambo: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13096-rip-indian-larry/#findComment-93646 Share on other sites
September 3, 200420 yr comment_93647 ...............I still think that my personal choices about my health and safety are none of the state's business.I'm with you Walter.I always wear my lap belt in my Z (no shoulder belt in it currently) but I hate to wear the combo belt in my small truck as it cuts into my neck.My life, my choice. September 3, 200420 yr comment_93654 Its sad but ironic in fla , its against the law to operate a vehicle without a seatbelt or a bike<pedal driven> for someone under the I think of 12-or 13 but yet no helmet law for motorcycles, the woman who pushed < big polictical supporter> the bill to be passed that allowed people to ride without helmets was killed in a crash last year at bike week , go figure , but we also talking a state where you can get a dui on a bike <pedal > as well as a riding lawn mover :tapemouth Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13096-rip-indian-larry/#findComment-93654 Share on other sites
