September 3, 200420 yr comment_93692 without a seat belt holding me in place, I still think that my personal choices about my health and safety are none of the state's business. While I agree in principle there are other things to consider. For instance, if you have passengers, especially small children, it is your responsibility as a driver to help protect those passengers. In the event of an emergency situation you're more likely to keep the vehicle in control if you are securely fastened in the car. In the event of an accident you're more likely to be able to help extract and treat others if you yourself are not injured or unconscious. Since I have a small child I really hate to think of a child being properly and safely secured in a restraint seat and otherwise uninjured while the unsecured driver is ejected or knocked out and the car on fire or in water. September 3, 200420 yr comment_93694 I'm with Walter and Carl on this issue. Please don't force me to wear a helmet, I'm smart enough to know that I should, all by myself!!! Isn't this supposed to be a free country? So why does the government keep nibbling away at our right to free will??? I quess it's safe to say we need to get ourselves a little more informed on issues before we VOTE! (hopefully your all registered voters) As most will probably agree, it doesn't take much brain power to figure out that if you hit your head on the pavement, at just about any speed, you will sustain head injuries....duh!!! Everyone has heard of the DARWIN AWARDS......these champions are the result of thier own stupidity and I would quess you could find, in this group, a number of the non-helmet and non-seatbelt wearing crowd. Enough said already! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13096-rip-indian-larry/?&page=2#findComment-93694 Share on other sites
September 12, 200420 yr comment_94863 It varies from state to state. Some states value "rights" over "lives".This is absurd. Indian Larry died doing what he loved. It's not the fault of the State that he wasn't wearing a helmet. He made a choice to not wear one and he paid the ultimate price for that decision. That was his right. The only reason seat-belt and helmet laws exist is to create additional revenue. September 12, 200420 yr comment_94865 Since it really doesn't matter at this point, all I'm going to say is that wearing a helmet might have saved his life. Wearing seat belts has saved lives. Beyond that I will not 'miss a perfect opportunity to keep my mouth shut' as one of our members so accurately stated. September 12, 200420 yr comment_94889 ...............I still think that my personal choices about my health and safety are none of the state's business.I'm with you Walter.I always wear my lap belt in my Z (no shoulder belt in it currently) but I hate to wear the combo belt in my small truck as it cuts into my neck.My life, my choice. It varies from state to state. Some states value "rights" over "lives". The only reason seat-belt and helmet laws exist is to create additional revenue.I'm not sure that is true, but I am sure that my local Police use it for that reason Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13096-rip-indian-larry/?&page=2#findComment-94889 Share on other sites
