Man! If I can get my hands on a 432 engine, I wouldent care anout the cost. To have one in my Z, I think it would be awsome! Make it 3 people!

Saw one on Yahoo Japan auctions a week or so ago...1.5 Million Yen, about what I paid for the whole car!!

Yes that is one awesome car. I know the guy who used to own the car down in Melbourne. Yes it does sound awesome and goes like the powers of wizz. A1 interior and body. This thing is immaculate, it is a good buy. As far as I know it is a real gtr minus the S20 engine. Presumably some jap ripped it out and sold it for some ridiculous amount.

As far as the engine being Kakimoto built I believe that the sump has a stamp or sticker on it which indicates its a kakimoto engine, have a look on your car, you should find it somewhere. Well done!

No - it has been clearly stated that this car is a GT-X with the 'KGC10' VIN prefix. If it had the 'KPGC10' VIN prefix then you would probably be correct - but it has not. Its a GT-X that has been built as a GT-R replica, as g72s20 has mentioned.

Taking the S20 engine out of a genuine C10 GT-R would make no economical sense; the car would be worth more complete with engine unless the body was unrestorable.

About 15-20 years ago there were a fair few GT-Rs and 432s knocking around in Japan with L6 transplants, but most if not all of these have been reunited with their original spec S20 engines by now.

Jim,

The Sydney Z Club is holding its Concours on the 19 September at Gannons Park Peakhurst. Whilst we will be having 30-40 Z's, we will also be having other Datsuns, such as P510's and others, and we would be very pleased to have you along to show of your beautiful car.

Our Concours is being run as part of the Lions Club Spring Fair and I have attached a link to their site.

Would be pleased to see you there!!

Additionally, we will certainly look forward to seeing you next Easter at Goulburn when we run the 2005 Nissan Datsun Z Car Nationals incorporating the many Nissan Datsun Marques.

1.5 million Yen is $13,635

The Kakimoto site is interesting. Connecting rods, idler pully, cam and valve parts. It seems to me that a Kakimoto engine would have a Kakimoto valve cover?

Yes , some nice bits there.

Sheesh! at about $900 Aussie for a tappet cover? Just a bit extravagant for me, they're nice, but not that nice. I actually asked a similar question of the guys who imported the car, after seeing a picture of the "Special K" cam cover. They believed the price was the reason it doesn't have one, but it's all speculation. Whatever it turns out to be, it's obviously well sorted. A few minor mods, a dyno tune and printout is on the cards.

Thanks Alan for your usual clear and concise response. Even though the car is built to look like a GT-R, I cringe at the idea of hinting it is anything but that, a nice lookalike.

Ripper, thanks for the good rap on the car. I'll check the sump, cheers mate! Ron never suggested that the car was ever a real KPGC10, but the build quality and sound certainly makes people wonder and may account for what you heard.

I think Alan would agree the car is much more practical as it is than if it were a genuine KPGC10. As it is I can take it out and play with it at the various track and show days without the concern of hurting a AU$60,000~$80,000 car.

If anything untoward should happen to the engine installed, it's a lot easier to fix an L series in Australia than an S20, plus I have a spare complete worked L26 if needed. Another thought, I'd be surprised if a real one could catch this little beauty :P

Just an off-the-wall question. I could not read the writing on the website (kakimoto), I dont have babblefish. Will any of the parts work on a turbo engine...say, the valve cover and pullys? :?

Babel fish is on the net as a service offered by Altavista. Go to http://babelfish.altavista.com/ and you can copy and paste text into the text box for conversion, or just put the URL in the "Translate a Web page" box to see the webpage in English. It's not a very good translation though, so it might not answer your question... but hopefully will be useful for you anyway.
